I firmly believe this is the single greatest action scene in American cinema. It is the closest we came to John Woo levels of perfectionism. The raw physicality of the scene is incredible. And Andy Garcia is awesome. ...Two. Indeed. youtu.be/oxc0FiwY5dY?...

Had the late shift today, so before work I managed to edit another chapter of Frenzi 8, which included sex that made Frenzi uncomfortable and the use of J&B as a firebomb. Also started the 3rd chapter of The Bartender: Old Fashioned Onslaught. A nice picnic interrupted by dummies.

I'm not trying to kvetch, but I need to find a good footing for promos again. Used to be, I could buy a few Amazon ads, a Bargain Booksy promo, and sell some books. This month was our second-worst of the year, and it's due to a lack of promotion. But those paid promos? They don't do much anymore.

Edited another chapter of Frenzi 8 tonight. Forgot that R. J. Calder blew up THREE snow machines in this chapter. Wondered if it might be excessive. Went back and counted. There were at least six that could have met the same fate. I now admire his reserve.

Day off. Should have done more edits, but instead made it to 7k words in Mercy: The Silver Death. Reworked a scene and got to play with 1870s slang. Started chapter 3 of The Bartender: Old Fashioned Onslaught and we find one thing Brodie fears: horses. They are motorcycles that kick and bite. 😆

People who write vigilante fiction always seem to be talking about their story being a commentary on the harm that violence causes to both perpetrator and victim. That's cool. Our vigilante fiction is about how bad guys hurt people and our vigilante guys (and gals) make them suffer before death. 👍

This is fantastic advice from Casey that we should all heed. Yes, putting the words down is important, but even if you can't get the words down, you can probably do something to move your process forward. Even a small step is a step. Don't knock yourself because the words are still in your head.

Rough introduction of our head baddie, Simon Simms, in The Bartender: Old Fashioned Onslaught. Chapter 2 almost done. Thrilled with how breezy this one feels. Reminder, much may change between these roughs and the final book, but I believe this has the legs to BE a final book.
***

Empty. Devoid of life. Terrifying. These were all words that Simon Simms would use to describe Montana.

Born in Los Angeles, Simms had spent his entire existence in cities, where humans lived and produced. The closest he had come to the country was a long weekend in upstate New York for a conference. He didn't leave the hotel that entire weekend.

Simms was forty-three years-old and looked either ten years younger or ten years older depending on his mood and haircut. He'd spent most of his life in his expensive house in San Francisco's Presidio Heights, which he bought once he made his first million almost twenty years ago as a young coding genius with a tech company that no longer existed. He was, according to some, the greatest programmer who ever lived. To others, he was the anti-Christ.

He had developed the most advanced artificial intelligence platform, Simmulacra, and in a year's time it had exploded ahead of its competition. He'd been on the covers of magazines, had private conversations with presidents and kings, and been the source of disdain for a subset of civilization he had termed "zombies". The walking dead, unable to live in the here and now, trying to resist the pull of the future. Idiots, he thought, was an also apt descriptor.

I just clicked publish on a new #spicy #scifi story: Reyna’s Royal Rescue. www.amazon.com/dp/B0HKY4CRPY A queen is taken prisoner by the T'karans. All rescue attempts fail until her loyal chef comes to her rescue! Blurb in the alt text below. It's free to read if you have KU, or $0.99. 💙📚🚀🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Cover image for my new story: Reyna's Royal Rescue.

----

Two months in an alien dungeon can change a woman. When Queen Reyna is captured by the ruthless T'karan empire, she survives alone on a bare metal platform with only her wits and a secret intimate device. But when her guards throw a battered and beaten man into her cell, she expects a fellow victim, not the palace sous chef. Caspian is no ordinary cook. He's a former spy with a few tricks up his sleeve (if he actually had any sleeves, since the T'karans have taken his clothes). He's on an unauthorized mission with a wild extraction plan. He shares details of the plan during a passionate performance under the watchful eyes of their captors.

Stripped of her royal vestments, the heat between the Queen and her rescuer ignites into an unbridled explosion. But their escape plan seems to shatter when they are dragged for interrogation into the private office of the K'taran ship's commander. Captain Khlepha is a fierce diminutive officer who rules her ship with a discipline stick and a calculating mind. Surrounded by a ship full of enemies, Reyna and Caspian must navigate a desperate, high-stakes gambit of manipulation with the beautiful alien commander. Winning their freedom will require a scandalous price neither Terran ever saw coming.

When I chose to set The Bartender: Old Fashioned Onslaught in Montana, all I thought about was wide open scenery and the chance for Brodie to hook up with a cowgirl. I didn't know about Montana's Right to Compute act, giving big tech free rein to build anywhere. Guess I picked the right villain.

That was one of the fastest DNFs I've ever had. Ostensibly a cop thriller with queer romance, it had 6 different characters introduced in the first 12 pages and then proceeded to reference them all and their actions but not by name. I read that 1st chapter 3 times and understood nothing by the end.
