The credits for the score of The Wolf Man from 1941 are shared by Hans J. Salter, Frank Skinner, and Charles Previn. My son and I noticed this the last time we watched it. At the 58:24 mark there’s a flourish that is straight up Elfman’s Batman. Gets repeated a couple of times as the scene goes on.

In my early years of teaching high school, POTA was the first book I championed to flip the table on our all Canon choices of supplemental novels. Kids dug it and soon other teachers were including it in their classes as well.

Second movie up tonight is Psycho III, one I don’t remember much about except it was Anthony Perkins’ first (of two) directing credits. From opening on a black screen where we hear a woman scream “THERE IS NO GOD!” to the end of the opening sequence, he really went for broke taking it out on nuns.

Start doing the horror movie a day thing at the beginning of September. Kicking it off with Mike Flanagan’s Hush. A pretty cool aspect of Hush referencing Midnight Mass five years before Flanagan would see MM released. My love for Midnight Mass knows no bounds.
