Global model ensembles are in strong agreement that a prolonged &anomalous nearly West-wide autumn heatwave will develop this week & persist for 10+ days. While some daytime records may be set, this event will be more notable for its persistence & breadth. [Thread]

There is finally a potential for a hurricane or strong tropical cyclone east of North America — but it’s in the Mediterranean. There’s been a growing signal among ensembles for a medicane, or subtropical/tropical cyclone in the Mediterranean, that may develop this week.

Super cool feature seen on DC area radar Tuesday night: A mesoscale convective vortex swept across the area. It was like a mini-cyclone that formed as a pocket of spin passed by. Helped intensify thunderstorms in Southern Maryland with gusts over 60 mph.
