I review John Ironmonger's "The Year of the Dugong" A book where our children's future puts our present on trial for the crime of standing by while the world burned would always float my boat. But Ironmonger's first duty as a novelist is to deliver a good story and he does just that.

THE YEAR OF THE DUGONG by John Ironmonger (BOOK REVIEW)
A book where our children's future puts our present on trial for standing by while the world burned is always going to float my boat. But for all the popping candy of climate indignation that The Year of The Dugong sets off for me, a novelist's first duty is to tell a good compelling story and Ironmonger delivers that.

I review Stephanie Wrobel's fascinating thriller set in the world of publishing and the tense relationship between authors desperate for a break and agents searching for the next big thing, which all come to a head in a vertiginous tree house setting.

REVENGE PLOT by Stephanie Wrobel (BOOK REVIEW)
Like all good mysteries - it is fun to go back and re-read the opening chapters to see all the foreshadowing by which the author has treated the reader so fairly with hints and clues that become so Why-didn't-I-see-that? obvious with hindsight. There were some twists that I anticipated just a few chapters before the actual reveal, but others that were a delicious surprise

Carbon capture was always a fossil fuel industry scam! Their way to feed the public complacency and apathy that they rely on to dull the public appetite for fast radical energy transformation, and keep people consuming their toxic product right up to the very end (of civilisation as we know it!)

Ectopic pregnancy deaths have nearly doubled in post-Roe America. The rates are even worse in states with abortion bans. When we warned them women would die, they didn't listen. This was preventable.

I review Bel Banta's Romantasy "The Court of Venus" with its intriguing blend of astrologically inspired magic and Tudor history inspired murderous court intrigue.

THE COURT OF VENUS by Bel Banta (BOOK REVIEW)
The plot wends as sinuously and as riven with poison as a snake, with many potential murderers for Bianca to unveil, all while trying to avoid the deadly games of a capricious king made cruel by unchallenged power. Roland is at once, foe, ally and maddening distraction and the question is always how far and how firmly should or could the planetborn stand together.

Robert Kraft — who's given millions to pro-Israel orgs like AIPAC — once got a $1M award from Netanyahu for helping stop people from boycotting Israel. "Israel does not have a more loyal friend than Robert Kraft," Netanyahu said. Now, Kraft helps kick Macklemore off Ed Sheeran's tour:
Robert Kraft to Establish a Foundation to Combat Anti-Semitism, BDS, Delegitimization of Israel
Jun 20, 2019 at 03:25 PM
June 20, 2019, Jerusalem - Tonight, the Laureate of the 2019 Genesis Prize Robert Kraft was honored at a gala ceremony in Jerusalem. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Genesis Prize Foundation Chairman Stan Polovets bestowed the award on Kraft in front of an audience of 600 Israeli and international dignitaries.
The $1 million Genesis Prize, dubbed "the Jewish Nobel" by Time Magazine, honors extraordinary individuals for outstanding professional achievement, contribution to humanity, and commitment to Jewish values. Previous honorees include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg; philanthropist and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg; actor, producer and peace activist Michael Douglas; and "Fiddler to the world" maestro Itzhak Perlman.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said: "I am delighted to welcome Robert Kraft to the august family of Genesis Prize Laureates. This prestigious award honors Robert's generous lifelong philanthropy, his commitment to the Jewish people, and his love for Israel. It also recognizes his principled stand against anti-Semitism and efforts by our enemies to undermine the State of Israel through BDS and other similar campaigns. Israel does not have a more loyal friend than Robert Kraft."
Kraft previously announced he would forgo the $1 million monetary award so that the funds could be granted to initiatives combating anti-Semitism, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS), and other efforts to delegitimize Israel. This is in line with the tradition established by previous Genesis Prize Laureates, who have "re-gifted" their awards to philanthropic causes they support.

THE AGE OF BLOOD AND MAGIC by Hannah Mathewson (BOOK REVIEW)
The plot twists and wriggles in delightful ways, managing to constantly surprise such that I kept on finding myself checking the progress bar on my kindle and thinking. "There's too many percent of the book left, so although this feels like the climax it can't be the climax - there must be more to come!" and there always was, right up to the last page.
