Hawaiian does not equal something or anybody who comes from Hawaiʻi. Spam Musubi is not Hawaiian, Lau Lau is Hawaiian. I may be from Hawaiʻi, but that doesn't make me Hawaiian. It makes me a local from Hawaiʻi. Hawaiian = Native Hawaiian (Kānaka, Kānaka ʻōiwi, Kānaka maoli).

I find it interesting that pork products are so popular in Hawaiʻi and that the local Japanese community in particular, eats so much pork and spam. It's quite a contrast to the plantation days when the Japanese would condescendingly belittle Okinawans for their consumption of pork.

TW: Dead Snake Went to chase the sunset with a friend who was visiting. Stopped at a lovely beach, but unfortunately also came across a mangled sea creature. I think it was a sea snake or eel that got caught up in some sort of fishing tool. It was incredibly sad and frustrating to stumble across.

My friend took me to Tā Falls in Ogimi and we saw an endemic Ryukyuan lizard on our way back to the parking lot. It's called Takydromus smaragdinus, アオカナヘビ (Aokanahebi) in JP and ジューミー (Jyūmī) in Uchināguchi. Wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't run across the pavement!

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. Right, another key thing that historians do is working with important records that have not been digitized. And the vast majority of the world’s records *have not been digitized* and thus do not exist in any format that LLMs/AI can work with.
