Trevor Project released its annual LGBTQ youth mental health report. The results are shocking. 40% of trans youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. Trans youth who wanted hormones but couldn’t access them were nearly twice as likely to attempt suicide than those who could.
Key findings from The 2025 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People include:

36% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, including 40% of transgender and nonbinary young people.
1 in 10 LGBTQ+ young people attempted suicide in the past year.
44% of LGBTQ+ young people who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it.
90% of LGBTQ+ young people said recent anti-LGBTQ+ laws, policies and debates caused them stress or anxiety.
LGBTQ+ young people of color attempted suicide at higher rates than their White peers, and nearly a third (32%) also experienced racial or ethnic discrimination, in addition to anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination.
Transgender and nonbinary young people who wanted hormones but couldn’t access them were nearly twice as likely to attempt suicide than those who could.
Over half (59%) of LGBTQ+ young people ages 13-17 experienced bullying in the past year, and those who did reported significantly higher rates of attempting suicide in the past year than their peers.
LGBTQ+ young people who reported living in very accepting communities attempted suicide at less than a third of the rate of those who reported living in very unaccepting communities.

So including for instance elevating elevating the ideas of early career scientists

We have a problem, we have a major problem, right

For for the last 30 years it's gotten worse and worse

Where where you have the time to first- like the age at which you get your first large grant, the age has gone up from the mid-80s was about 35 years old to now it's like in your mid 40s.

We have a biological research ecosystem where you need 1,2,3 postdocs

Early career scientists are the ones who have the newer ideas

and so, like, when you when you elevate the new ideas you allow- essentially empower the institutes to have newer ideas funded, you're automatically organically going to fund early career scientists. You just are.

This paper provides guidance and tools for conducting open and reproducible systematic reviews in psychology. It emphasizes the importance of systematic reviews for evidence-based decision-making and the growing adoption of open science practices. Open science enhances transparency, reproducibility, and minimizes bias in systematic reviews by sharing data, materials, and code. It also fosters collaborations and enables involvement of non-academic stakeholders. The paper is designed for beginners, offering accessible guidance to navigate the many standards and resources that may not obviously align with specific areas of psychology. It covers systematic review conduct standards, pre-registration, registered reports, reporting standards, and open data, materials and code. The paper is concluded with a glimpse of recent innovations like Community Augmented Meta-Analysis and independent reproducibility checks.

Had missed this absolutely brilliant paper. They take a widely used social media addiction scale & replace 'social media' with 'friends'. The resulting scale has great psychometric properties & 69% of people have friend addictions. link.springer.com/article/10.3...
link.springer.com
Development of an Offline-Friend Addiction Questionnaire (O-FAQ): Are most people really social addicts? - Behavior Research Methods
A growing number of self-report measures aim to define interactions with social media in a pathological behavior framework, often using terminology focused on identifying those who are ‘addicted’ to engaging with others online. Specifically, measures of ‘social media addiction’ focus on motivations for online social information seeking, which could relate to motivations for offline social information seeking. However, it could be the case that these same measures could reveal a pattern of friend addiction in general. This study develops the Offline-Friend Addiction Questionnaire (O-FAQ) by re-wording items from highly cited pathological social media use scales to reflect “spending time with friends”. Our methodology for validation follows the current literature precedent in the development of social media ‘addiction’ scales. The O-FAQ had a three-factor solution in an exploratory sample of N = 807 and these factors were stable in a 4-week retest (r = .72 to .86) and was validated against personality traits, and risk-taking behavior, in conceptually plausible directions. Using the same polythetic classification techniques as pathological social media use studies, we were able to classify 69% of our sample as addicted to spending time with their friends. The discussion of our satirical research is a critical reflection on the role of measurement and human sociality in social media research. We question the extent to which connecting with others can be considered an ‘addiction’ and discuss issues concerning the validation of new ‘addiction’ measures without relevant medical constructs. Readers should approach our measure with a level of skepticism that should be afforded to current social media addiction measures.

compared to last year’s results.” However, I take issue with the author’s subsequent interpretation of the most recent test scores which reflects poorly on his/her understanding of basic statistics. The differences in proficiency rates cited in throughout the article are overwhelmingly NOT STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT.

Using a standard p-value of 0.05, any improvement in scores must show at least a gain of five percentage points in order to be considered as statistically significant. So, for example, even the slight decline in 4th grade ISAT scores in Idaho (2024 67.1%, 2025 64.6) is not significant. Similarly, the following assertion made by the author of the article is incorrect and misleading.

“Students scoring in the advanced range of the proficient category saw a slight increase, with 23.2% scoring advanced in 2024 compared to 23.6% in 2025.” In order to have been statistically significant, 28.2% of students must have scored proficient in the language arts subtest.
