I will most likely be transitioning my life from full time TTRPG content creator back to part time hobbyist within the next few months. To put it frankly; I love it as an outlet for creativity, but this hobby eats its own way too often and way too viciously. The purity spirals kill creativity.

Love this take but I think there’s a caveat. When it’s boots to the ground getting from point A to point B I don’t see my players RP much BUT when there’s a vessel (a cart/a boat/an airship) that makes a world of difference. I also think exploring is best when presented like a dungeon too.

Not about damage but Utopia RPG handles defense in a similar philosophy - instead of a static number representing the amount of armor someone is wearing AND their ability to dodge, Utopia splits them into two variables tied to rolling dice and reducing damage.

I don't really mind damage types, esp in 5e, but in more modern/sci-fi settings I don't really think there's much of a need for them. If anything, I think it would be cool to implement minor effects certain damage types can do - but it would have to be implemented in a way that doesn't buff magic.

I really like this point because often I find that an exuberant amount of art for TTRPG games can take away from the use of imagination - which is why I really loathe things like the new 5e VTT/AI Art/etc. TTRPGs are best when physical material and imagination are in harmony with one another.
