You can't get anyone in political media to say it plainly, but GOP strategy for several decades now has been built around the fact that its core goals/policies are *wildly unpopular*. Everything depends on a) polluting the information environment, b) cementing unfair structural advantages, & c) $$$.

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

Health professionals are not law enforcement, and are instead bound by an oath not just to beneficence - acting in the patient's best interests - but also non-maleficence - avoiding harm and injustice. This is an upholding of an oath. Heroic work, I commend her.

This is absolutely horrific. This should weigh heavily on Justice Roberts, along with the countless other decisions that will have his name go down in history as an abysmal failure of a Chief Justice. At one point I believed he cared deeply about his legacy. He's entirely torched that now.

I've been covering the death penalty in depth for a dozen years now, and few nights have been as disturbing and dispiriting as tonight. This was a moral, ethical, and legal failure on several different fronts from many different actors. It wasn't *just* SCOTUS, though they sure were a key part.

SCOTUS, over the liberals’ dissent, cleared the way for Tennessee to kill Christa Pike. The alarming order from DC was followed by even more disturbing developments in Tennessee.

I believe the "do not see" on some level. But some very much do see, and actively support all of the fascism or feel that this isn't fascist enough. Those who "quickly dismiss" the bad things all too often still end up voting for those bad things. So...how do you reconcile that?

I don't entirely believe this though. I don't believe the "they didn't know they were fascists." They didn't suddenly become this way, this is what they always were - and the GOPs slide into fascism gave them the permission structure. Republicans did this over decades.

ICE is now lying in wait outside convenience stores, or at busy intersections. Agents are arresting people at international airports. Local police and sheriffs, deputized by the federal government, are detaining immigrants during traffic stops. ICE is now detaining more immigrants than ever before.
