Trump, ICE, and Republicans could not care less about human life -- this is evil. ICE will "open a child & family detention facility on an airpark in Alexandria, LA, [that will] house children & families...where contamination levels are 5,000 times higher than recommended limits." #MomSky

Political violence is a serious issue. But it’s not a “both sides” issue. The leaders of the Democratic Party do not call for violence, do not elevate violent supporters, do not pardon violent thugs who attack our seat of government and our elections. America is under threat from the right.

Smarter people than me can tell you but I think this started after the 1984 election. That wipeout created a mindset in the party that still remains, as if we are not part of mainstream political thought and that even when Dems win this a fundamentally hard right country. Thats how Dems govern.

VERY important point from my colleague Sam Bagenstos - the 2026 Senate races will determine the future of the Supreme Court and federal courts more broadly. Which means the 2026 Senate race in MICHIGAN could determine the future of the Supreme Court

22 California billionaires have spent a combined $150 million so far to defeat Prop 40. By spending their fortunes trying to stop California from taxing billionaires, they're making the argument for a billionaire wealth tax more clearly and articulately than anyone else possibly could.

The right wing crash out over asian students celebrating at a UT football game reveals that all along the true goal of reactionary colorblindness was never “meritocracy” but resegregation. (Gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
Color-blind meritocracy was, for many years, a successful rhetorical strategy for undermining antidiscrimination law and excluding Black people from selective schools and prominent positions. That’s why so many former segregationists seemed to suddenly embrace the concept in the 1970s. For them, resegregation—not color-blindness—was always the goal. As long as the success of some immigrants could be used to paint Black students as undeserving, color-blind meritocracy was good. But now many on the right see a new problem: too many Asian Americans in elite spaces. Their success, therefore, must be portrayed as a sinister theft of real (white) Americans’ birthright.

The declining “social trust” that the administration warned against is, of course, not the fault of these students. The problem is bigots like Bo French who cannot accept into their community people who do not share their race and religion, and those who monetize or otherwise profit from that bigotry by spreading it through social media. Like the proverbial child who kills their parents and asks for mercy as an orphan, they are responsible for the problem they are decrying.

Bezos, the world's third wealthiest person, said more families will need only one parent to work and people will work for three days per week.

I think the biggest lesson in 250 years of American democracy is how quickly our democracy can be destroyed, in as little as 2 years. And until a malignant narcissistic sociopath came along as president no one, no historian, thought this was even possible. This needs to be fixed to survive.

Regardless of the legality of posting armed national guard members at drop boxes, whether the boxes were open yet, or whether drop boxes qualify as polling sites under the law; the optics are what matter. Lawful or not, it’s overt, intentional voter suppression.
