September hath not as much time as I wish…
Question: If one writes a 10-minute play, and then precedes to want to change every line, does it make one a playwright? What if one wants to change the sex of one of the characters to deepen it? At what point should one be comfortable enough to share it? For me, the willingness was there pretty early, like finished the night before an early morning writing club meeting and I was going to have it read there. I was hoping to be able to listen to it, not read a “part” and it could have worked, but, eh, I had another short piece and I also preferred to listen to another writer’s longer story, so it remains an unread play.

Excuse Me While I Remember to Forget and Forget to Remember
This July, I’ve woken with wisps. My dreaming seems intense with connections, but awake, the details disperse. Following the suggested dance lessons I’ve found in real life have led to off-kilter destinations and delightful discoveries. This is a Balloon Flower. I don’t recall seeing these before, and I definitely did not plant them where they bloomed. (I have a map. I planted a bulb there in the late spring and a rhizome last year-neither of which emerged. Never have I ever planted a Balloon Flower anywhere.) Centaury came up in a patch resembling a hand toss of seed, though I never bought those kinds.

Summer Love…ish
Living by a creek means critters often stop by and these past few weeks a yellow striped swallowtail butterfly (or several) has flown up close to greet me nearly every time I have stepped outside. The meadow where there used to be lawn is awash with fireflies each night. Bats have flown at dusk just outside the kitchen window. Of course it’s not all delight and wonder. For the privilege of watching hummingbird gestation, I’m on call for feeder filling and receive reprimands when the level is low – or Egads!

26 Years Married to the Day
Perhaps if I hadn’t waited until the last moment, I’d be able to share photos of the iris. Three purple ones are in bloom, the smell - intoxicating. I stopped to inhale them after joining a group of bees, wasps, and other flying insects at the pink lilac bush on the roadside path. I truly thought its early buds had suffered from the frosts, but I coaxed it and encouraged it to be strong. I took a few shots of the spectacular bush knowing I can never capture its pale pink beauty, but even those I couldn’t get to send through email.

Welcome to Chaos: Spring in Western New York
Hello and how are you doing? This morning we had warmth and the sun, then a downpour that was overwhelming our drainage system, and now that it’s night, I am praying the creek stays low and in its banks. I also made cookies and went out to photograph the crocuses. A very intelligent woman named Eileen had a phrase that described my recent months – The Tyranny of the Couch. When we bring in wood for the winter, the place where we stack it limits what furniture can comfortably fit in the main room.

Bye bye 2025
The countdown to a new year happens tonight. Tomorrow, our New Year’s Day breakfast table is likely to resemble this, our Christmas morning one, where soon after this picture was taken, we feasted on pancakes with local maple syrup, sausages and mockmosas. This December was another of mass-producing sweets and sharing them with people. The “try” recipe was an utter mess to make, but the taste! The texture! Salted Caramels were a delight to eat, but too sticky to send so few people tasted them. I streamlined a few processes and maybe next year – if there is still chocolate and I can afford it – I’ll be faster and more precise.

Spirited Thanks
Usually, I take a picture of our Thanksgiving table. Sometimes I send it in a text with a greeting to others. This year, besides a few two-word exchanges, the once sweet stress day filled with relatives I might only see then passed quietly with no photographs. We ended up watching the Macy Parade – brava! A bit later, the dog watched the first twenty minutes of the Westminster Dog Show with interest, then retrieved a ball for us to throw. The snow arrived, but not a deep one. On Friday, the ceiling painting commenced and now patches are on the wall.

It is the scary season and since I’m writing this after editing pages to send to the awesome writing club at the library AND editing and printing copies of the next installment of a weird little tale for the Friday group AND it’s Wednesday, not a last minute Friday scribbled post, we all ought to be terrified that I’m ahead of schedule on anything, let alone multiples. The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

🚨BIG changes happening -- ICE leadership is being purged tonight. The old guard, which prioritized targeted enforcement operations aimed at people with criminal records, is being replaced with Border Patrol and Gregory Bovino's "Midway Blitz" style. Think things are bad now? It'll get worse.
Bill Melugin
@BillMelugin_
BREAKING: Per four senior DHS & Trump admin sources, a mass removal of ICE leadership around the country is underway, with up to 12 ICE field office chiefs being removed & reassigned in an effort to increase deportation numbers. I'm told the move is spearheaded by Corey Lewandowski, and a handful of the ICE Chiefs will likely be replaced by Border Patrol & CBP officials, some of whom will be hand-picked by aggressive & controversial Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino. I'm told some of the ICE leadership removed from their positions include the ICE Field Office Directors in:

- Los Angeles
- Phoenix
- Philadelphia
- Denver
- El Paso
- San Diego
- Seattle/Portland
- New Orleans

Border Patrol officials taking over ICE leadership positions would be extremely significant, as Border Patrol and ICE do different things, and I've done numerous ride-alongs/embeds with both.Generally speaking, ICE typically conducts very targeted operations, largely going after criminal illegal aliens or those with deportation orders, but almost always knowing who they are targeting for arrest, often conducting surveillance to learn their schedules before and waiting hours before arresting them if needed.

Border Patrol, under Trump 2.0, while sometimes doing their own targeted operations, has been extremely aggressive and has been at the forefront of some of the most controversial immigration enforcement operations we've seen so far, carrying out roving patrols in Los Angeles, Chicago, etc, often at Home Depot, car washes, flea markets etc, leading to a handful of federal judges around the country issuing injunctions against them. A majority of the viral videos you see online are Border Patrol agents, including the use of a Trojan horse style Penske moving truck at a Los Angeles Home Depot, an operation organized by Bovino.

ICE often gets blamed for what Border Patrol does, as the media and activists often cannot tell the difference between federal agents, and everyone is called "ICE". I'm told there are growing concerns about the political and PR fallout associated with some of the roving patrols Border Patrol is conducting as lawsuits continue to stack up and mid-terms approach next year. I'm told there is significant friction within different wings of DHS and the administration, with Border Czar Tom Homan & ICE Director Todd Lyons preferring to prioritize targeting criminal aliens & the "worst of the worst" or those with deportation orders, while DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Corey Lewandowski, and BP Commander Bovino prefer to use aggressive tactics to arrest anyone in the US illegally, including but not limited to criminals, to ramp up deportation numbers and achieve President Trump's promises of mass deportations.

I am hearing from both sides of this friction.

One senior DHS official tells me:

"ICE started with the worst of the worst, knowing every target they are hitting, but since Border Patrol started in LA in June, we've (DHS) lost our focus, going too hard, too fast, with limited prioritization. It's getting numbers, but at what cost?".

Border Patrol agents I've talked to defend their tactics, with one telling me:

"What did everyone think mass deportations meant? Only the worst? Tom Homan has said it himself, anyone in the US illegally is on the table."It's quite a situation, as both sides of this are on the same team, with the same end goals, but different perspectives on how to get there.

Another DHS official confirmed the personnel changes to me on deep background, adding that the moves are based on performance and doing what is needed to achieve the best results.

Official statement to
@FoxNews
 via
@TriciaOhio
:

"While we have no personnel changes to announce at this time, the Trump Administration remains laser focused on delivering results and removing violent criminal illegal aliens from this country."
