Agreed! for example this “primitive lineage fallacy”way of thinking has long been widespread in social insect research (and I wrote a paper with Brian Johnson trying to clarify the issue pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31401545/ )… but as you say, it’s very widespread. I think it comes up more often when
