A poem and drawing for your Saturday
A poem entitled "Someday" above a black and white drawing. The text of the poem reads:

"Some days we are storm-borne on the honest ocean.
Some days we are spat up on the sand.
But someday...
Someday we will meet the far horizon
where the stars are all extinguished in the sea,
and we will find our solace there
within the endless arc of slowly breathing sky.

-- John Wyatt Greenlee"

The drawing is a black and white, and made of abstract shapes and lines, and it looks like it might be something like a jellyfish, with tentacles trailing beneath it. It might also be a tentalted mushroom.

So are they going to censure physicians who continue to promulgate the false and pernicious droplet dogma of disease spread? Aerosols, not droplets, are by far the dominant mechanism, but I've seen physicians wrong about that in public statements in the last week.

I'm an operationalist. A shift in understanding that is not a shift in practice is nothing. If you can find a Canadian hospital that has implemented CSA Z94.4-25 I'll reconsider my view that physicians are still 100 years behind the science.

In fairness, the BC NDP is running a disinformation campaign claiming they haven't been in charge of the province for the past decade, which is why all the conservative changes are still with us. Don't take a decade to raise taxes back up, do it?

David Walker published An Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World in pamphlet form in 1829. It's one of the most important and influential abolitionist texts in U.S. history. Yet, very few people have actually read it and many people don't know who Walker was especially among young people.

I have seen physicians in Canada in the past week promulgating the debunked, false, and pernicious droplet dogma, so they are not past it, and we should not rest until they are.

If this policy has any teeth it'll come down on droplet dogma hard and fast. If it's nothing but the kind of meaningless anodyne BS we've come to expect from physicians, it won't.

Why should we clean the air in schools? - Reduces pollutants which cause asthma, multiple cancers, and dementia. - More resilient to airborne disease and pandemics We need health-based standards for air quality in schools. Fund ventilation filtration and maintenance. #HIAS2026

Lower business investment is a plague here, but as others have suggested this is not a consequence if taxation, at least as near as I can tell. It's at least in part due to a risk-averse extractive culture among our investment class.

in my talk today, as an example of the strange things you can do in comics given their sequential but also spatial/simultaneous nature, I included this gonzo panel from 1950s Batman, which I just love in all its weirdness! Yes, I have more intentionally clever examples, but something about this...
part of a page from a batman comic. In one panel, batman leaps from off panel onto a diving board, the motion lines of his rebound travel across to another panel, where we see him finish his leap and crash into the crooks to save the day

There are reasonable grounds to suspect that Ebola could be at least partially airborne, albeit comparatively inefficiently. For the moment. Whether or not this is the case, public health and infection control appear to be gambling with Ebola the same way they gambled (and lost) with COVID.

That statement is false. Not being exposed is the best defense. ASHRAE 241 standard clean indoor public air and CSA Z94.4-25 in health-care can give us that. Vaccination is a backstop, not the best defense.

The last breath of the aerosol-generating procedure? Scotland's new infection-control guidance and implications for anaesthesia   research-information.bris.ac.uk/en/publicati...
Abstract
In August 2026, Scotland fundamentally changed its infection control guidance regarding how respiratory disease transmission risk is managed - replacing the droplet–airborne dichotomy with the simpler concept of air transmission, and entirely removing the aerosol-generating procedure (AGP) list. This evidence-informed approach is based largely on the findings of clinical aerosol studies undertaken during COVID-19 which demonstrated that many procedures on the existing AGP lists, such as tracheal intubation, generate little or no respiratory aerosol (substantially less than talking or coughing). Removing the AGP list does not mean less protection; it means precautions are based on the likely pathogen, patient's respiratory activity, practitioner exposure and environment. Scotland’s revised guidance offers a timely opportunity to replace the inherited dogmas in international guidelines with rational and evidence-informed respiratory protection before the next respiratory disease pandemic.
