I’m coming back to Chicago! I’m going to be talking about how predictive models can be useful (and how they fail kindof horribly, and what to do about it)

But most of the factors leading to higher premiums in the last 5 years or so are things that individuals can't affect. You can't personal-responsibility climate change or a madman slamming tariffs on parts randomly!

UC Berkeley Law creates new AI policy that bans AI for "conceptualizing, outlining, drafting, revising, translating, or editing any work submitted for credit" or exams because "thinking remains the sine qua non of good lawyering (and of a quality legal education)." That's what I'm talking about.
Rule:
The use of AI is prohibited for aid in conceptualizing, outlining, drafting, revising,
translating, or editing any work submitted for credit. AI use is prohibited for any use for
any purpose in any exam situation. Students may not upload course
materials—including assignments, readings, slides, class recordings, or other class
content—into generative AI systems. AI can be used for research on papers ONLY for the
limited purpose of identifying sources, such as cases, statutes, or secondary sources.
Students are responsible for the accuracy of their research and all other aspects of their
submitted work. Citations to sources that do not exist will raise a presumption of
prohibited AI use

Beginning my process of collating and curating my dSLR photos from @jococruise.bsky.social, which will take a few days (there are 4880 of them), but I thought this one was a pretty good one to show off right now.

I liked a phrase Sambhavi just said. Accessible to people using assistive technology or those who have other constraints. I love it. Maybe you are outside and in the sun, maybe it is a loud environment, maybe you only have one hand free, it is a constraint.

Do we really need to move faster and faster with AI? When you move fast and break things, YOU BREAK PEOPLE. Why is breaking people acceptable? Do we need to have a slow internet movement? Bring back blogs, web rings, and bulletin boards?

Also, a big problem I have with these examples. The agents can write code, BUT you need humans to review the code. Which is seniors, with no juniors to make the mistakes to learn how to be a senior, when this batch of seniors retire, there is no one to check the work of agents.

SLTTs get lumped together because they represent subnational governments who can confound plans. They often control land masses that are critical to making systems work - you might need tribal sign-off to run cable to Oklahoma, or vice versa.

I’m fine with rebuilding blue collar job opportunities. Doing so is a 10 year process at a minimum. Factories need building and training and then gaining experience takes time. The issue is people like Navarro don’t want to pay people living wages. This is why unions started.
