I did not have Charlotte Church down as a Dead Kennedy’s fan. I did have her down as a good egg.

Over on Threads someone asked what mnemonic might future school children use to remember the order of the Prime Ministers of the UK in the 21st Century. I humbly present the first 25 years. 1/6

Can’t read the underlying story b/c paywall. But here’s a thing. He’s not suing her because she lied*. He’s suing her because she spoke up. (*for completeness - I have no reason to believe she lied. I don’t believe she did. But Gaiman isn’t trying to prove she lied here.)

This is such an important point. If Facebook et al. have moved from being the carrier of other people’s posts to being the provider of much of that content, it potentially opens them up to a world of legal liability for harmful content that they’ve washed their hands of to this point.

Ran my first ever Traveller session tonight for @thegrognardfiles.bsky.social ‘s Virtual Grogmeet! Loads of fun reinvigorating an adventure written in 1984 for more modern rules. And amazingly the author of the adventure plays in the RPG group that the father of a friend of mine still runs!

My friend Andi is a fantastic tour guide, and he's just launched his 'Games at The British Museum' tour which I'm hoping to go on in a couple of weeks. Highly recommended if you're into games, and can get to London. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/games-at-t...

My kids is trans. We face the real possibility they will have to leave the country to live their life with full rights and freedom. I will never stop fighting for them but it would be helpful if I didn’t have to fight so many people allegedly on my side. So, you know, happy TDOV.

Prepping a very old adventure - The Snowbird Mystery from White Dwarf 41 - and I really want to intro it the way @burnafterrunning.bsky.social did for the Stay Frosty adventure I played with him at Grogmeetish. But I can’t remember the acronym! Guy - was it COTS? I know theme was in there somewhere!

Chatting with @nickbradbeer.bsky.social and others last night as we were playing Traveller and I mentioned Blades in the Dark being a favourite of mine for being low prep. As proof, this photo shows 4 index cards that were responsible for about 20-30 sessions of roleplay and scores.
4 index cards with notes for scores in the game Blades In The Dark. One is just a clock called “How do boxes even?”

There are going to be limits to what you can make other countries do by threatening to tax your own citizen's purchases of their products. I believe handing over entire territories falls well beyond those limits. 🤷‍♂️

overcast.fm/+ABFPLrrMVaM TRiE is often a bit hit and miss but this episode is a corker - they bury the lede in the title but the first section on the Disney+ deal with OpenAi is fascinating. Osman cites Karl Marx (quite properly in my opinion) and they discuss the motivations and likely outcomes.

Just complimented a woman on the train for her necklace (lovely South American style jewellery). She in her turn said that she’d heard me on the phone and I had a lovely voice. And now we both feel great and the world is a little bit a better place.

I’ve been involved in the web since pretty much its beginning - I remember when Danny Sullivan started Search Engine Watch, for example, because there were sufficient different search engines to be worth writing about. And Simon’s article is sadly true. Well worth a read (and Simon is a nice guy).

Interesting that two different news sources can take the same event and spin an entirely different story about it via the headline. In one, Kimmel is defiant, in the other, he’s repentant to the point of tears. I wonder which one it was.
Two clips from news stories. The Guardian says “Jimmy Kimmel says ‘Trump tried his best’ to cancel him, as his show returns to air after suspension.”
The BBC says “Tearful Jimmy Kimmel says he never intended to “make light” of Charlie Kirk murder as he returns to TV”

Deeply amused that when translated into Arabic and then back to English, the Kevin McCloud show, Grand Designs, translates as “The Rich Also Cry”. Which, if you have ever seen the programme, is a /perfect/ title.

Here’s how good accessibility benefits more than its focussed audience. I’m with my 6yo daughter at the theatre and for the toilet I have a choice of taking her into the gents, or trying to make sure the ladies is clear. With gender-neutral toilets I wouldn’t worry. #TransRightsAreHumanRights

I’ve just realised - my general disdain for shows like Critical Role et al (nothing against them personally, but RPGs are for participants, not spectators #HillIWillDieOn ) is basically punk. Screw watching people. Get 4 dice, get up there and do it yourself.

Listening to an 80s playlist on Apple Music and they’ve got some great tunes on there. Most surprising so far has being their choice to use what they claim is the original 12” of Soft Cell’s Tainted Love. It’s awesome. But also very, very strange.

My iPad is called Eagle One because of Space:1999 - it’s such a utilitarian design. Like Red Dwarf it considered the spaceship more like a truck or lorry than a sports car. Practical, not romantic. Which of course made it romantic.
