20,000 mail accounts. 20,000 blogs. 5,000 mailing lists. 1,500 websites. In Europe. Run by volunteers, perfectly legal, and decidedly antifascist, feminist, queer. Destroyed and shut down by Trump's administration, extra legally. It is astonishingly quiet. ⁨#Autistici⁩

[Hello] Often, people ask us "what do you do" and we answer at length, excitedly, a bit out of breath, with a lot of "and also!" or "oh! and" so we made a website that answers that question through projects, skills, ways of working. Take it for a spin, bring it back when you're done. draftlab.org

Extremely normal and fine for a company to put this in a public statement
21. Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive. All cultures are now equal. Criticism and value judgments are forbidden. Yet this new dogma glosses over the fact that certain cultures and indeed subcultures . . . have produced wonders. Others have proven middling, and worse, regressive and harmful.

22. We must resist the shallow temptation of a vacant and hollow pluralism. We, in America and more broadly the West, have for the past half century resisted defining national cultures in the name of inclusivity. But inclusion into what?

"End-to-end encrypted messaging on Instagram will no longer be supported after May 8, 2026." help.instagram.com/491565145294... I don't know how many at-risk people this will affect. I do know that a service removing encryption (even if it was only ever opt-in) does make me unhappy.

End-to-end encryption adds extra security and protection to your messages and calls in a chat so that only you and whoever you're talking to can see, hear or read them.

applying for jobs again
screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. “you simply must visit the monster—i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."

MacKenzie Scott's game-changing philanthropy still mystifies nonprofits: 'Her gifts are super generous, but unfortunately, they don’t provide long term sustainability'
"What they are saying with trust-based philanthropy is to offer support beyond a check," Indiana University's Pamela Wiepking says, "and that’s typically not what she is doing.”

How the hell does something's profitability connect to whether it's AGI? Also how about an AI system that generates profits of any kind lol www.theinformation.com/articles/mic...
Whether AGI has or hasn’t been “achieved” by AI developers has been a hotly debated topic due to its fuzzy and subjective definition. OpenAI has publicly described AGI as automated systems that outperform people at “most economically valuable work,” but nobody can agree on what that means.

Now we have clarity, thanks to this story Amir and I published this morning. For OpenAI and Microsoft, its largest investor and exclusive cloud provider, AGI has a very specific definition: the point when OpenAI develops AI systems that can generate at least $100 billion in profits.
