My toxic trait is that I think 1 is the best prime because it is the most prime.

Okay, maybe I’ll just let you take it then :) On a related note, can you tell what this says? Your conference attendees might like it.
An image with Crimson and white squares on top and red and black triangles on bottom, in clusters that have 19, 15, 15, 14, 5, and 18 squares, and 3, 15, 23, 2, 15, and 25 triangles

Awesome! That is almost good but think there are some mistakes in the Oklahoma example! Can make you a similar graphic before then for you if you want, let me know!

And some good follow up questions, how does this compare to when Caltech did it? Who had to buy more black and white tarps? What if you did it with your own school’s name?

The Hollywood Sign was converted from saying HOLLYWOOD to GO UCLA by some clever UCLA students. I was able to get in touch with one of the students who shared the picture he used to base his measurements off of. Great lesson for calculating area. robertkaplinsky.com/work/uc...

#ElemMathChat Q7 “Last Tile Standing” is another one of my favorites (for Tile Farm’s version go to tiletalk.tilefarm.com). I’ve chosen one of the 24 patterns above, can you think of yes/no questions that could help eliminate options? Ask and I’ll answer yes/no. Can comment below if easier.
Twenty four clusters of tiles that look like 3D clusters of cubes, each with a differing number of cubes.

Great Q's, and I understand why your brain says space invaders, even though I think there are no hexagons in space invaders? #elemMathChat

Alex Romero @tilefarmer.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
A6 How many hexagons did it take to make this whole thing? How many blue hexagons are there for every white hexagon? How many types of “triangular things” are there made out of hexagons? How many white hexagons are in the largest unit that repeats? #ElemMathChat

#ElemMathChat Q6 “How Many?” is another great question asking activity (shout out @triangleman.bsky.social ) (for Tile Farm’s version go to tiletalk.tilefarm.com). What “how many” style questions can you ask about the above pattern? Can you think of one you can’t answer?
A blue and white pattern seemingly made out of hundreds of hexagons colored somewhat randomly but with a certain pattern.

Yes, I think about this a lot, minor moments can be so negative, but on the bright side, one little moment can also have a trajectory changing positive impact.

#ElemMathChat Q5 “Notice And Wonder” is an obviously great question asking activity (shout out @mfannie.bsky.social ). Can you ask some questions about things you wonder about the above pattern? (Made in Tile Farm Studio)
A thirty sided polygon made out of thousands of isosceles triangles.

Alex Romero @tilefarmer.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
Yes, I love this. I always find admitting I don't know something to be so powerful for students.

Alex Romero @tilefarmer.bsky.social · 03/04/2026
A4: I think a lot of the negativity around question asking comes from large groups. In groups of 2-3, students feel much more comfortable. I think activities that involve question asking as the norm really get kids comfortable asking questions (incoming . . . ). #ElemMathChat

#ElemMathChat Q3 What is the question-asking culture like in your classroom(s)?

It's crazy and sad how long this negative stigma about question asking persists.
