A2 I hope it is inspiring when I give them opportunities to play with numbers. I think there is more of this play feel when we do our warm ups - visual patterns, solvememobiles, number of the day...... but then they take this playful spirit into the formal lesson #ElemMathChat

A1 I feel like number sense is understanding relationships and connections with numbers and the dynamics of them. Then being able to play with numbers in flexible ways because of that understanding. It is important because when you have number sense it helps with problem solving #ElemMathChat

A10 I teach my students to communicate their needs before they get so frustrated. It is a life skill. We talk about not throwing the contoler at the tv in relationship to gaming as a metaphor. We also have a plethora of questions to ask ourselves and one another when we are stuck #ElemMathChat

A7 Learning is socially constructed. Collaborative work allows students to jointly build knowledge, share perspectives, and feel seen and supported. That sense of belonging can build confidence and persistence, helping students develop grit. #ElemMathChat

A5 my students are greeted with a "your are the reason we are here" message each day. We have a wall of "Ingenious Influencers Like Me" that also has a mirror so students see themselves with the "greats" like them. When students belong they are willing to engage in the gritty culture. #ElemMathChat

A4 I intentionally teach what productive struggle is, why it is important and what it looks like. I teach the associated brain science BEFORE I ask students to engage in productive struggle and we revisit this as needed #ElemMathChat

A3 I have not encountered students being stuck because their is failure to provide adequate representation. I start every class with a mirrors, windows, sliding glass doors activity that ensures we start and center all of us. It will be interesting to see what people say about this! #ElemMathChat
