I recognize the pain of thinking if I could only talk to them one more time. It is among the more familiar human laments. But that's just the thing it is a human problem to be endured not a technological problem to be sold. Our capacity for loss – in fact the necessity of losing and having lost – is what makes us who we are. Individually and collectively. There is no workaround. There will be no workaround. And every step toward preventing that or perverting that is an affront to our humanity. Why not just taxidermy nana and prop her up at the Texas Chainsaw Massacre dinner table? At least there's something real and tangible about that. Undeniable in its sacrilege. You should have to smell the dead when you disinter them.

Not for nothing but I think the reason AI companies have been rushing to get themselves either regulated or nationalized is because executives want immunity from civil/criminal liability. They’re going to ask for that as part of any agreement to forfeit control, and will thus avoid accountability.

We don’t talk enough about how health care companies have started using dynamic pricing for their contract rates with nurses AND have been buying credit bureau data on prospectives to target desperate people who may accept a lower contract rate. My mom said it best: guillotines won’t be enough.
