Seen some electoral bumph from Reform. They can’t even spell the name of their own party, for goodness sake. Some of the other parties are truly bonkers. Hoping someone normal gets in.

Elections in Spain again. Going to vote to keep the fash out. Sanchez is a true statesman. Those Vox w⚓️s, not so much. They’re unhinged and very dangerous. I wish they’d disappear into obscurity.

Interesting seeing the pamphlets getting sent to constituents for the Holborn and St Pancras by-election. Saw some utterly bonkers people sharing stuff for Restore. They sound utterly vile. Don’t think they’ll get many votes in Camden, thankfully. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

There’s that, but you also need rent controls, better educational/training opportunities, better transport infrastructure and higher salaries, amongst other things.

One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries. We are also very good at integration. And it's v sad that this is never acknowledge in debates on immigration.

A snoozing Swan for #SereneBirdScene, the alt theme for #BirdOfTheDay today. Photographed at RSPB Middleton Lakes in May last year. Wishing everybody a Sunday as serene as this scene! #Birds #WildlifePhotography #UKWildlife #EastCoastKin 🌿
Photo of an adult male Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) on a lake. The bird is facing to the left of the image, with his long neck slightly curved, and his eye (probably both eyes, but we can only see one!) shut. The Swan's plumage is white, with hints of brown on the head. The beak is orange with a black tip and black around the nostrils. A black area extends from the base of the beak to the eye and extends into a large, rounded, black lump projecting forwards.

Post #9 in this #birds thread: a Chiffchaff I think (dark legs, less distinct 'eyebrow', and there was a male singing nearby so this may have been his mate—but the yellowish chest is rather Willow Warbler-y), at Brandon Marsh in early June. #BirdOfTheDay #Warblers #BirdPhotography #UKWildlife #ECK 🌿
Photo of what I am almost certain is a Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita), a type of warbler. The bird is perched on a twig, one of several from which leaf buds are beginning to burst. We are looking up at the warbler, whose body is facing partly towards and partly to our left, while the head is turned to look a little to our right. The bird has mostly brownish plumage on its upperparts (we can't see much of those parts though, only the top of the head, a little of the left wing, also the underside of the tail which is also brown). There is a pale stripe running across each side of the face above the eye, and the throat, chest and belly are whitish, with hints of yellow. The legs and feet are dark in colour. Behind the bird and the twigs, a blue sky can be seen.

Today’s main #BirdOfTheDay theme, #LongLegs, provides the perfect opportunity for me to post this pic of a Grey Heron lifting off from the pool in front of the Kingfisher Hide at Teifi Marshes @wtsww.bsky.social nature reserve in June. Post #1 in a new #birds thread. #UKWildlife #Photography #ECK 🌿
Photo of a Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) who has just taken off from a pool of water which is bordered by lots of the green leaves and stems of sedges and reeds. The bird, wings open in mid flap, is heading towards the top right corner of the picture, long neck outstretched, and long legs dangling below with trails of water droplets arcing away from the feet to the water just below. As the name of the species suggests, the plumage is mostly grey, darker in some places, paler in others. The top of the head is black, the eye is yellow with a black pupil and rim, the long, pointed, heavyset beak is dark above and an orangey-yellow colour below.

The hounding of Jason Arday has been unspeakable. A white person would have received a small fraction - if any - of the vitriol and humiliation he received. And the (largely) white people who did this, or failed to put safeguards in place, will get away without consequences.

Anecdata but I asked local farm shop how the farm itself was coping. They’ve had to prioritise watering the autumn/winter veg so there will be anything to harvest. Summer salad crops are tiny. I recommend “Feeding Britain” by Tim Lang to learn more about how insecure food is on this island.

As #Springwatch has drawn attention to the marvellous Marsh Fritillary, here is a photo of one of those beautiful #butterflies at the Prestbury Hill reserve of @savebutterflies.bsky.social, which I visited a couple of Saturdays ago. 😍 #NaturePhotography #Insects #UKWildlife #EKC #EastCoastKin 🌿
Photo of a Marsh Fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia) at resting on a Buttercup flower amongst some grasses. The wings are fully open and we are looking down on the butterfly, which is facing towards the top right corner of the picture. The wings are patterned with a patchwork of orange and tawny yellow blobs (plus, on the outer edges of the hind wings, whitish blobs) enclosed with brown lines and bands of varying thickness. The head and body are hairy and dark brown, with patches of more orangey hair on the front of the head and on the 'shoulders'. The antennae have thin bands of dark brown and white along their length; the thicker tips are dark brown with yellow tips.

RefUK, RW media, & Eurofash are plainly trying to whip up a panic about this. Any serious report must begin by explaining that Ceuta is in Africa - not mainland Spain - and 48k+ of the 50k crossers were already returned. It is frightening how many still don't know this. Please share on all socials.
Map showing the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla in North Africa.Screengrab from Politico piece that explains, citing Reuters, that 48,300 of the 50,000 recent crossings have already been expelled or voluntarily returned to Morocco.BBC report on Friday, still echoing the RW disinformation - or at the very least not challengning it sufficiently.

Spain's prime minister has blamed trafficking gangs after about 60,000 migrants crossed into the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco. At least 57 people died during the surge, according to local media."Daily Mail and Daily Express from this weekend, with front page headlines "Ministers MUST stop the Spanish border invaders reaching UK" and "SPANISH BORDER CRISIS IS 'WAKE-UP CALL' FOR UK", respectively.

Can anyone explain why I can have a Catalan keyboard on my phone but not those of any of the other languages of Spain? It can’t be a regional issue, surely? I can see keyboards for plenty of other languages outside of my region, so what gives, Apple? I’d like to use a Galician keyboard on my phone.
