If there are no coalition talks with Die Linke in Berlin, the SPD and Green will accelerate their losses to them in the big cities.

If you believe in the "vibecession" narrative in the stronger sense, you are a deeply antidemocratic technocrat. If you believe in it in the weaker sense, I hope that you have made (social) media reform your core issue.

Private equity is currently imploding. A historical accident, produced by low rates & tax subsidies. Meanwhile, the European Commission? Is consulting "to explore ways to make it easier for investors in private companies to sell on their stakes." EU financial policymaking is so depressing.

I dunno I think neoliberalism’s grand plan of dismantling the welfare state and the social contract and replacing them, respectively, with nothing and nothing created a pretty fertile breeding ground for fascism and this isn’t even particularly controversial anymore.

Political scientist, etc. should really look more into why the AfD support in Germany is highest among the prime working age group, peaking at roughly 45. Personally, I think it is the last cohort where many people could still pretend (to themselves) that Germany isn't a country of immigrants.

Finally, after a quick drink, home from counting results in the Frankfurt election. Some quick thoughts: 1. Probably the last time I do a Briefwahllokal, at least for local elections 2. The Hessian voting system leads to lots of wasted votes because voters don't understand the system (1/2)

I've been saying for quite a while that George Grosz is the historical artist who best captures the tenor of our current moment. He made this painting, "God of War," in 1940, several years after fleeing Nazi Germany for the US, where he became an influential teacher www.artic.edu/artworks/241...
Painting full of images of war and militarism, including a young boy with a machine gun, a swastika, and a monstrous saluting figure at right

Take it with a grain of salt (Murphy has clearly decided that he will run on a "I have opposed the Iran war" ticket for president) but he heavily suggests that the main US strategy (copied from the Israelis) is just "mowing the lawn" at large.

I have been looking at some data ahead of the BaWü state elections in Germany. One remarkable effect in Germany is that the AfD support is concentrated in the prime to older working population. It is lowest among retirees. This is remarkably different to many other countries. (1/2)

One serious issue for public understanding in Ireland and Europe is that, quite like Israel, we're cut off from quite how insane and degenerate right wing American political culture is because it's a forbidden topic for mainstream Western journalism.
A Newsmax info graphic showing a pyramid of Western civilisation for which Judaism is the base, Christ and Christianity are the middle layers and "U.S.A" is the peak.

My latest for Liberal Currents. A substantial portion of conservatives want to be rich people in a poor country because it affords them a greater sense of hierarchy and power. We misunderstand that at our peril, but making it clear and not affording them the benefit of the doubt could save us.
