i just read something about grief from C.S. Lewis and his book, “A Grief Observed” basically, when someone you love dies, it isn’t just them that you miss, but the parts of yourself that person brought out of you that can never be brought out again. i feel that with my dad.

This came today; 1928 deco-era letter press pamphlet cover for an event that used to be held at the Univ. I work for. Verified with Univ. archives & a solid provenance. Will be framed & hung in my office. Came packaged in this dutch(?) language children’s book. Historic rainbow action for my office
A white paper cover to a pamphlet reading “Women’s Day, May 19, 1928” mostly black and white and stylistically deco with hints of Beardsley…with a 3 color rainbow cascading through the middle.

Every person who says "of course there are some uses for LLMs" should be forced to immediately list what those uses are, taking into account that: a) they cannot be accurate and there is no way to make them accurate b) they have been repeatedly shown to make users dumber and worse at their jobs

Glad to see Pritzker standing up forcefully against the current tyrant in chief. Needless to say, none of this is normal, and every day it’s pushing us closer and closer to an outright shooting war. If you’re a member of the military, remember you swore an oath to the Constitution above all else.

The study divided 54 subjects—18 to 39 year-olds from the Boston area-into three groups, and asked them to write several SAT essays using OpenAl's ChatGPT, Google's search engine, and nothing at all, respectively. Researchers used an EEG to record the writers' brain activity across 32 regions, and found that of the three groups, ChatGPT users had the lowest brain engagement and "consistently underperformed at neural, linguistic, and behavioral levels." Over the course of several months, ChatGPT users got lazier with each subsequent essay, often resorting to copy-and-paste by the end of the study.

That Pritzker press conference was... surreal, and I think marks a significant moment of escalation in the constitutional omni-crisis. This was the governor of a state saying plainly the Union itself is being torn apart and his state is being militarily invaded by an authoritarian regime.
