Ex typhoon Choi-Wan forecast to merge with a separate storm in the far southwestern Bering Sea and then dramatically deepen. ECMWF has a 942 mb low off the Russian coast Thursday AM. Thunderstorm season is about finished across mainland Alaska. This season started off slow but ramped up just before summer solstice. The mini-peak in mid-August was unusual but not unprecedented. Total strike count was typical since the current detection network came online in 2012. #akwx #weather
