Having seen the Joyce Carol Oates very bad, not good tweet about romance and AI, I can't help thinking about the way that romance has been treated as a punching bag for so long and always by people who are completely unwilling to engage with the genre and know little about it.

Thawing permafrost could cause up to $51 billion in damage to Alaska’s buildings and roads. Engineers are using drones and digital models to spot sinking ground (and potential damage!) before it happens.

A regional permafrost map can’t tell a builder if a particular foundation or road will survive as temperatures rise. Engineers need to see beneath the surface to find the weaknesses.
