Many people are only familiar with “dissociation” as what they might call a “catatonic state” but is a “disconnection between a person's thoughts, feelings, memories, and sense of self” Daydreaming and Hyperfocus are literally forms of dissociation.

I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖
A pride flag with every color band represented by a NASA image. White is Earth clouds, pink is aurora, blue is the Sun in a specific wavelength, brown is Jupiter clouds, black is the Hubble deep field, red is the top of sprites, orange is a Mars crater, yellow is the surface of Io, green is a lake with algae, blue is Neptune, and purple is the Crab Nebula in a specific wavelength.

Think I'll make this a subtweet. If you're donating to an autism-related charity, "people with autism" is a GLARING red flag. A lot of treatments for autistic kids are abusive. I'm an autistic adult asking for you to do your due dilligence and not fund the abuse of vulnerable children.

The design of The Disability Pride flag came about though iterative process to make it visually accessible. Each stripe represents a different category of Disability with the background representing disabled victims of ableism & abuse. www.weinberg.cuimc.columbia.edu/news/history...
The disability pride flag

Each color stripe has a meaning:

Red - physical disabilities
Gold - neurodiversity
White - invisible disabilities and disabilities that haven't yet been diagnosed
Blue - emotional and psychiatric disabilities, including mental illness, anxiety, and depression
Green - for sensory disabilities, including deafness, blindness, lack of smell, lack of taste, audio processing disorder, and all other sensory disabilities
The faded black background mourning and rage for victims of ableist violence and abuse. The diagonal Bband cuts across the walls and barriers that separate the disabled from normate society, also representing light and creativity cutting through the darkness

TikTok had a massive community of #ActuallyAustistic people, likely the largest autistic community in the world ever. It included all ages and speakers and non-speakers. It also had a large chronically ill community. The potential loss of community for many otherwise isolated folks is significant.

Aside from everything else wrong with these “cures,” they ignore the fact that autism is a spectrum. Mine makes it HARDER for me to learn languages. If someone had pushed that on me as a kid, it would have been one more thing to make me feel inadequate.
