Dear college students: When you ask a question and the professor gives a detailed answer, you can thank them, or ask a follow-up question or clarifying question, or present a reasoned counterpoint, or just nod thoughtfully as you take it in.
But please, PLEASE don't say, "Thank you for sharing."
