Think tonight is an interesting test of us, expect Sunderland to be more aggressive out of possession at times than any of our opponents to date. Can we take advantage of it? Can we not just mash it long?

A real shame that he didn’t leverage his love of Arsenal into fixing the CL final

Strongly agree with this, with a lot of players you’re paying for what they could be rather than what they are. Once they’re on big wages, you can’t shift them anyway

I generally hate trying to fix medium term injury issues with signings, also hate buying older players but with Konsa and where we are it makes a lot of sense

Being champions and signing one of the best midfielders in the league who perfectly complements one of the other best midfielders in the league is a real signal of intent

I am mildly concerned that we won’t be able to take a material step forwards with our recruitment this summer. It’s not at all obvious to me where those upgrades come from. Though being a top three side in world football makes that inherently challenging

The final hilarity of “this government doesn’t have a culture secretary” is “how did it not occur to anyone to get Starmer an Arsenal Champions shirt signed by Mikel Arteta?”

Another World Cup, another round of “the European dominance is collapsing!” after a couple of results...then another last eight dominated by Europe. The emergence of serious challengers from around the world, anticipated for decades, still hasn’t happened. www.nytimes.com/athletic/743...

Europe is dominating another World Cup. That does not look like changing anytime soon
With six of the eight quarter-finalists coming from Europe, the continent's grip on the world game has tightened

Great timing for this to be announced the same day as a Bernardo Silva interview in which he bemoans referees being inconsistent when calling fouls for holding.
"I think it's a foul," Bernado says with a shrug.
"The only problem is the consistency of the referees. It's not just this (the foul by Pablo on Raya). It's everything that happens around, so in this picture you see three or four fouls taking place. It's a foul (on Raya), but it's quite frustrating when they allow this type of contact at times during the season and then they decide not to allow it in such a game.

The most frustrating part of this debate is the trotting out of Jewish people with atypical views as a shield. We all see through it when done by conservatives with other minorities, and so should be able to do the same with leftist antisemitism

I find certain aspects of Arsenal dialogue entirely baffling, people watch Gyokeres play every game and think if only Arteta did x our attack would be good. Saw someone claim we have very good attackers, just not sure how you can watch them and think many of them are good enough for an elite side.

1. Britain has very much *NOT* always tolerated minority faiths. Just ask Jews and Catholics. 2. The idea that religious expression should be "in conformity with our values, our norms, our beliefs" should worry every faith group, starting with Christians.

Quite. Badenoch’s answer manages to be even *more* alarming for other British faith groups, as the explicit logic is that large chunks of them should *also* be excluded from public events.

The Jewish News, which I am proud to work for as Deputy Editor, has published an editorial on this week's Iftar prayers in Trafalgar Square www.jewishnews.co.uk/voice-of-the...
Excerpt from the article:

"The question here is not really one of whether such prayer is in fact an attempt to “dominate” – or the more obvious explanation, that during Ramadan one breaks ones’ fast by eating very briefly just before and then more properly after the evening Maghrib prayer (yes, like our own Maariv prayer). Rather it is about whether one has the right to publicly express their religious identity in this country. In this specific instance, an event to mark a key event in the Islamic calendar had been openly and legally booked for Trafalgar Square. Muslims present had every right to pray as a part of that."

The Iranian regime was awful and if it was to fall and be replaced by something less corrupt and that treats its citizens better that would be good. It’s just entirely unhinged to try bomb your way to that outcome when anything could happen

City continue to not play very well, but it doesn’t matter much at this point in the season. They are very clearly not the juggernaut of previous seasons but does it matter? Less convinced
