Saying that fans & critics should embrace being negative again is like saying “We should bring back Death and Taxes.”

DAWN JOURNEY (2010) Acrylic - 14” x 11” Every day offers the possibility of a new beginning. The journey the title refers to is the freedom of mind. 1/3 #art

Two women inhabit the ruins of an ancient abbey offering a contrast in contemplation. Atop a high pillar, one kneels with palms resting on her thighs and eyes closed in meditation while the other sits below leaning back at the base of a massive arched window bay now open to the sky. One knee is raised and her gaze is turned up and out of the ruins. The colors framed there are vivid traces of morning light, pink and purple traces lit warm but sunrise. A fat crescent moon lingers high left as seen past the broken wall of the ruins. Birds swoop and glide past light cloud cover.

Indie Book Spotlight @bookspotlight.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

The way indie music is seen as 'cool' and indie films are seen as 'embracing the craft without selling out' while indie books are seen as 'didn't get trad published' gives me feelings. Really crunchy feelings. The snobbery makes zero sense and instantly tells me someone isn't worth listening to.

I checked my Drafts and realized they’re all some variation of “People should be less mean on the internet.” Taking that as a sign that I should log off for a while.

Here are some nice mushrooms

A pair of tan mycena mushrooms glow in summer sunshine where they grow from a crack in a mossy log. The September light fills the forest with yellow and green. All photos by me

the intro to Batman: The Animated Series is one of the single best bits of storytelling ever done in any medium, an absolute masterpiece of character and atmospheric development achieved in a single minute with no dialogue

Speaking as someone who worked retail while both these songs were at their height, I’ll take ‘Shape of You’ over ‘Perfect’ any day. The former at least knows what it is. ‘Perfect’ is a hollow husk of a song pretending to be about love. Everyone I know who played it at their wedding is divorced now.

I'm sorry if this information hurts anyone, but liking art is just a human thing. It's part of being human. It's not just for cool or correct people. It's no different than liking food.

I saw a meme today that said that books are proof that strangers can meet across centuries and still understand each other. That really resonated.

Drawing of a knight on a horse charging towards a castle over a narrow path. There's a huge dragon right below them with their mouth open, similar to the shark in the iconic Jaws movie poster.

Hustle but never seem like you're hustling so you look confident and effortlessly successful. Assertive but not aggressive. Funny but not flippant about what really matters. Kind but no pushover. In tune with social media but not hung up on reputation. Above the fray but never aloof. ok got it

Orc Mischief - watercolour, acryla gouache on paper More Tolkien-inspired art, from a few years ago. Treebeard is my favourite character, so it was fun to try and reimagine him. Prints available if you'd like one.

An ent walks while holding two small hobbits. Behind them is fangorn forest, and in the far distance is Isengard.

A great thing about playing & reading lots of different games is that when you're running a game and someone asks how something works, and the game you're running doesn't have anything exciting to say but it'd be cool, you have the option to just steal from a game that did it better, right there.
