Anyone else finding it extremely weird that the government hasn’t said anything about climate change? Nothing on the drought? Nothing on the extreme temperatures predicted for our FIFTH heatwave of the summer? Nothing on how on earth we are going to adapt to this “new normal”?

For Earth Day, I profiled Asad Rehman, the new chief executive of Friends of the Earth for @hyphenonline.com. We discussed the threat of the far-right to climate action (and humanity), unexpected journeys into gardening and what a lack of access to nature takes away from marginalised communities.

Within just 48 hours of the Tories refusing to sack Nick Timothy for his Islamophobic comments, the far-right is circulating a list of MPs “of foreign descent” trying to “silence” him. [1/2]
A screenshot of Twitter user Connor Holland saying: “Why do we allow people with a foreign birthplace or ancestry to make decisions for us.

They recent us and are working towards the destruction of Great Britain.”

He includes a screenshot of a list of “MPs and Lords of foreign descent attempting to silence Nick Timothy MP”.

Pundits have to stop referring to anyone voting against the government’s stance on Gaza and its growing anti-migrant rhetoric as being a part of the “Muslim vote”. I keep hearing it in relation to Gorton and Denton. Progressive votes come from all corners of society and Muslims aren’t a monolith!

The current state of The Times’ comment section on this anti-immigration story is that most of the “recommended” posts actually violate the paper’s own policy. Utterly depressing.

It’s hardly surprising that Suella Braverman has defected. What’s interesting is that Reform doesn’t at all seem concerned about accusations that they will look like the Tories 2.0 to voters — they’re confident it won’t hurt them. And I think they're right.

The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.

Can we agree that the BBC clearly has shifted rightwards despite claiming political neutrality – whitewashing a genocide, amplifying anti-immigrant and anti-trans narratives – but that it’s also very worrying to see it capitulate to the Orange Man and his cronies for not being far-right enough?
