cannot believe that the current debate in open source is "should we actually understand the code we write or should we give money to sam altman and dario amodei to rent the ability to produce the jankiest garbage you've ever seen"

Back in the 1980s Tudor Griffiths taught Computer Science in the local school. Two maxims he repeated almost every class have stuck with me for decades. "A computer is exactly as smart as the person telling it what to do" and "A computer can and will make mistakes, and it'll do it a million […]

Spooky season #Caturday update.

A black cat with bright green eyes stands on a light-colored wooden floor. The cat’s long tail curves upward. The background shows wooden chairs and a patterned rug.

A black cat with bright eyes lies on a wooden floor, casting a shadow. The cat looks up toward the camera. A patterned rug with red, grey, and white shapes lies beside the cat. The words "NORA" are visible on the rug.

A black cat with bright yellow eyes sits upright on a countertop. The cat looks upward with its tongue slightly out. The background features light-coloured shelves with dishes and kitchen tools. "Purrfect" is written in yellow.

Open Source hot take: A software project is allowed to be *done*. Not everything needs to add features or rewrite things. You can just be happy with functionality and focus on just maintainance. "Maintenance mode" is not always bad but can just show a mature product.

He's completely fine, he only drunk rainwater that collected on the cover, and he was shooed off as soon as he was caught, so no damage was done.
