(Although it would give me an excuse to wear the Protect Trans Kids shirt that Transfigure Print Co. helpfully went out of their way to print on a Bella+Canvas V-neck for me so it matched all my other t-shirts.)

Pre-election demonstration the week before the psychological hurdle of my birthday and diagnosis anniversary. Whether or not I can make this one depends on… so many things, not least of which is the currently-bum foot.

I don’t think I’m ever going to get the appeal of pivoting to video for podcasts. I’ve been listening to podcasts for 20 years, and never once have I thought, my God, I need to SEE these people! I’m on a walk or doing the dishes, I don’t need video.

There was a robot wandering the aisles of Fred Meyer (sort of a large Roomba with a tall, thin tower on it) and irrationally I wanted to kick it over.

It seems that @multcolib.bsky.social doesn’t actually enforce the “no food” rule, which is why I’ve had to put my earplugs back in so my reading is not accompanied by the incessant wrapper crackling and snack crunching in the next chair over.

One terrific thing about @thestorygraph.com is actually being able to make listings for books I’ve seen announced here on Bluesky that I am interested in but that don’t yet have actual publisher listings to pull from, so I can keep track of them.

Do you know what to do if you feel earthquake shaking? If you live in North America and the ground starts to shake the recommended action is to “drop, cover, and hold on”.

I’m not sure getting the St. Johns Food Share truck backed into the garage was worth making the middle-aged guy on the hobbly foot with heavy backpack and tote full of groceries wait in the direct sun on the sidewalk but you do you I guess.

You guys want to hear a short but adorable story that happened right in front of me at the baggage claim in NYC yesterday? I wasn't part of it and there are bits I didn't catch but holy crap, I can't stop thinking about it.

The next five graphs are even less convincing, and the argumentation becomes even weaker. It was almost impossible for me to imagine how a seemingly intelligent person could have written it—but I found a secret clue buried in the text itself.

A.I. has the potential to enhance the way we live in the same way. It saved me and my colleague, Will McGrew, many hours of prowling the internet to research this essay. That left us with time to do other tasks.

I’m not thrilled that the per mile on the daily walk has gone up by two minutes. I know the foot is getting over the freak mopping injury but that seems excessive. Unless it’s somehow because I removed the hard plastic arch supports I’ve had (for some reason I don’t recall) but that seems weird.

A thing you can do is ignore the polls. They are lagging indicators responding to things that have already happened. They also do a gross cyclical thing of generating news that future polls react to. Truly consider what polls bring to your life over the next 30-odd days and if bad, forgo.

None of these places are in St. Johns, although I’ll give the bridge itself a pass. What’s been hosed in St. Johns, complete with drivers routinely wedging their cars into intersections and crosswalks, are N Lombard and N Ivanhoe.
St. Johns has been hit hard. "The St. Johns area has been hit a little harder than most during this timeẠỊGerber says. There is noticeably more traffic on local streets in that neighborhood, such as North Interstate Avenue, North Going Street, North Greeley Avenue and the St. Johns Bridge.

Now on @sciam.bsky.social: Scientists are still struggling to explain a bizarre neutrino that crashed to Earth in February 2023—and one explanation is as bizarre as the event itself, invoking primordial black holes, extra “dark” dimensions, and strange cosmic strings. By @astrojonny.bsky.social.

Scientists saw a very weird particle. Some say it came from an exploding, five-dimensional black hole
An unexplained high-energy neutrino detected three years ago could be linked to a primordial black hole, perhaps one more even unusual than previously thought

Hunter-gatherer societies are often put on a pedestal as paragons of equality – but the reality is more complicated
Hunter-gatherers do not always seek total equality, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t egalitarian.
