I wasn't doubting that Glucksmann was going to win the socialist primary but that it was so clear cut that there not even going to be a second round is a surprise.

Raphaël Glucksmann wins French center-left presidential primary
The founder of Place Publique won 66.13% of the vote in a primary organized by the Socialists and their center-left allies.

Another case of this site not beating the allegation. (Tbf i'm not helping by using this site a lot to keep track of how US politically engaged left and center left people speak of their politics)
Screenshot of the Political Discourse & Global Affairs cluster, subject are either about Trump, US domestic politics or UK domestic and foreign politics. With the notable exception of Russia/Ukraine related issue and two sub-clusters one about Germany and the other about Carney.

"Superintelligence" is a comforting myth for the people who want to accrue power to themselves through the use of technology to do so while exculpating themselves from the responsibility to take any kind of precaution while doing it. Not my fault, the autonomous agent did it.

You can’t talk about American politics in the eighties without understanding that both Reagan and his Vice President had opposed the civil rights revolution contemporarily.

I think it is helpful, analytically speaking, that in the age of the rising global fascist movement when a government appears to be acting inconsistently or hypocritically, to not become fixated on the fact of the hypocrisy, but to think about what policy goals are revealed in the disjuncture.

If only the governing party in France was centrist and tried moving to the right on immigration and cultural issues. Maybe then France could stop right wing populists from winning elections.

The war in Sahel is typically one of the place were i think Russia hawkery makes one view myopic. Like their are not the mastermind of the war, they are the security provider that will do the war crimes thought necessary by the juntas to win the war against terrorism.

I guess we've learned that you cannot trust the federal government to tell it like it is. (I however fixed a lot of copy mistakes for the other state which is neat, don't manage to find what's wrong with Mississippi though)
A table of slaveholder by number of slave owned associated by a table of the cumulative percentage of each categories. For owner of 1 to 9 slaves as the exact number of slave is owned a estimation of the number of slaves owned against the whole slave population is given.

Sorry i'm not just copying the table here.

This (old) work is still a bit raw, but i may never have the time to do what it takes to refine this so a 1% percent accumulated error will have to do. (And zero checkup about if the 1860 census may have reliability problem on the matter)
A table of the structure of slaveownership in 1860 for all confederate states.
Based on data from the "Agriculture of the United States in 1860", p247.
It give the percentage raw and accumulated of owners by number of slaves owned, and the percentage of slaves being owned by an owner possessing between 1 to 9 slaves (as they are the categories where the number of slaves is exact)

The contingent inconsistency of the IT government not wanting to pay the price of their idea is less relevant than that the chaos of arbitrary cutting off of Schengen due to migrant crisis allow to force a dilemma between dislocation or EU wide alignment to ever more heinous policy on migrant.

Except it is not Lizard Impulses, for nearly a decade i saw the right use anxiety about migration to create chaotic crackdown whose chaos generate more anxiety about migration. But anxiety about migration + crackdown is a good electoral formula so it's probably going to keep going.

The thing social media-driven social epistemologies, conspiracist make-believe, governance-by-propaganda, influencer alt-media, peer-on-peer surveillance, and AI-as-information-system all have in common is that they deny consensual participation in shared reality, which is inherently anti-democratic

FWIW this seems to read like he wants the territories to join the communities, which could be reasonable. Montserrat is already a full member of CARICOM, for instance. I don't think it would be that weird for French Guiana or Martinique to join up.

I foresee a big Comoros shaped objection to this shenanigan, strangely. However the alter-globalist aspiration of Melenchon foreign policy is a position he held for decade. (Even if it sometime feels like a cover for his souverainist attitude in regard to European affairs)

The problem with such argument is there are ways to respectfully acknowledge the death without eulogizing. Most notably by keeping to a short "Was informed about death condolence to close one, death always sad" and not explaining how you liked his sense of humor.

1. At this point i'm convinced that "abetting terrorism" in pro-junta rethorics means not letting the malian military conduct a heavy handed crackdown (less politicaly correct would say a massacre) in region of separatist / islamist activity.

"As the French geographer and urban theorist Christophe Guilluy has noted, people in such societies "need to manage, day in, day out, a thousand and one ethno-cultural questions while trying not get caught up in hatred."

That’s an absurd sentence. Where is that Germany that „swiftly“ compensated victims of the Holocaust? (Leaving aside the fact that of course they only paid out small amounts to *survivors*, not even sure what „compensation“ would entail in both cases - a major point of contention for Herero groups)
