I actually strongly dislike people trying to project their depression about their own life into a political philosophy. I think it's immoral and harms others and makes someone who is depressed into a monster

Did the 9 games thing. Feels weird to put an MMO there but XIV has indeed been extremely formative late in life:

List of 9 games from left to right, top to bottom:
-King of Dragon Pass
-Fatal Frame 1
-Quest For Glory 1: So You Want To Be A Hero
-Star Wars TIE Fighter
-Thief: The Dark Project
-Phantasy Star IV
-The House in Fata Morgana
-Final Fantasy XIV
-God Hand

Quest for Glory 1 is the closest thing you'll ever get to me calling a game "cozy":

The opening screen of the VGA rerelease of Quest For Glory 1: So You Want To Be A Hero. A sprite of a man in a red cape looks around at an idyllic german town. A man smokes a pipe near some stone steps while a creature that looks like an ogre in alpine garb plays with a toy.

LRP if I could figure out a Trait collection that my players could agree on for FF14 I would integrate it into storylines in a heartbeat.

the Traits and Passions systems will put more good roleplay on your table in a single session than an entire campaign of [insert your favourite PbtA game here]. Some people feel it constrains how they play their knight, but those people are unimaginative dullards

Loooove this response from Kim Stanley Robinson in a 2009 interview with Terry Bisson. Also a smack in the face to “is this necessary to the plot” foolishness

Someone once described your Mars books as an in-fodump tunneled by narrative moles. I think it was a com-pliment. What do you think?
No, not a compliment. I reject the word "in-fodump" categorically—that's a smartass word out of the cyberpunks workshop culture, them thinking that they knew how fiction works, as if it were a tinker toy they could disassemble and label superciliously, as if they knew what they were doing. Not true in any way. I reject "expository lump" also, which is another way of saying it. All these are attacks on the idea that fiction can have any kind of writing included in it. It's an attempt to say "fiction can only be stage business" which is a stupid position I abhor and find all too common in responses on amazon.com and the like. All these people who think they know what fiction is, where do they come from? I've been writing it for thirty years and I don't know what it is, but what I do know is that the novel in particular is a very big and flexible form, and I say, or sing: Don't fence me in!

Verad has literally been 52 for the last 12 years of RP because I use comic strip time, scoffing at both time bubbles and continuous aging. When asked how old he is, he says only "Rather!"

Had to drop a TTRPG group I'd joined the week before 9/11 because they wanted to pivot to monster-hunting Muslim vampires as a revenge fantasy. The bond was impotent rage.
