I love having friends over. I hate the aftermath left in my kid's playroom. She leaves it a bit of a mess sometimes, but it is controlled chaos. She spent days cleaning things up. Sorted Lego sets into individual bins. Disassembled her marble run and sorted marbles into their correct tins.

I found Nirvana's MTV Unplugged album yesterday, and haven't listened to it in ages. My Geriatric Millennial ass gave it a listen today, and a) still great as a whole b) Where Did You Sleep Last Night still gives me goosebumps. It is beautiful and raw and just an amazing piece of music.

Our neighbours are... fine. Definitely not great. And definitely not remotely considerate of their neighbourhood. (I also have piping hot tea on them.) Their lights on their house are insane. And I hate to be that person, but I am debating filing a complaint. Because FFS...

For science, I decided to buy a merino wool shirt for summer and travel. It is not a super warm day today. But so far it has been delightfully comfortable, not at all itchy, not at all hot to wear, and it fits nicely. $40 for a shirt is a bit above budget, but I might have to buy another one.

For it to be a good school year, as a teacher, you'd ideally have two out of these three: - classroom sailing (mostly) smoothly - supportive, or at least chill, parents - a cohesive team to work with If one isn't going well, the other two can get you through. Me? Currently all three are on fire.

It is the wee one's first year in Chinese school. And I jumped way out of my comfort zone and joined the all-parent volunteer Dragon Dance group. Today we performed for the Lunar New Year celebration. It was incredibly fun, and I am now exhausted.

Presenting: my fave annual lesson, always on a post-snow delayed opening day. It incorporates four senses to observe snow, descriptive language, sensory play, exploration of changes in matter, reasoning, prediction, and mixing primary colors. I'm very proud of it. 🥹 #EduSky #PreK

Children's hands manipulate ziplock bags filled with snow, and two primary colors of paint. One child is poking the snow with one finger, one is bashing it with a fist, and one is scrunching it with all of their fingers. It is a STEAM lesson on matter and primary colour mixing, disguised as goofing around in pre-k.

Why it is so hard to just "take a day" as a teacher... Spend an hour writing lesson plans, just for no sub to pick up. Need to call the district behaviorist from home because a kid is hitting everyone. Even out of the classroom you can't escape the classroom. Would have been easier to go in.
