Bathrooms were never just abt bathrooms (but rather the ability to exist in public). Health care was always abt bodily autonomy the same as abortion. And at core, this is abt forced compliance + control for everyone. Anyone who thinks they're exempt is deluded. Even the boys with their T shots.

RVA lost two LGBT public historians in the last few days (Beth Marshak and Judd Proctor), on top of losing Bill Martin in December. All three were so genuinely kind and interested in people. It seemed to me that they loved history because they loved people, in our our uniqueness and possibility.

Spotted 14 blue herons today as I walked across RVA's Mayo (14th St) Bridge! One day last week, I saw at least 25!! Plus maybe 15 or 20 vultures, 1st time seeing them back here in several years. They were all too far to get a good pic, sadly. Makes me want to walk to work more often!

Last post I'll do on people lecturing me about X/Twitter. I worked at the Washington Post for 11 years. The amount of racist hate I would get in story comments and emails was astounding. I don't remember anyone telling me to leave the Washington Post because of racist comments and toxicity.

What I need Congress to understand is that like Trump, much of what ICE does in full view of the cameras is already illegal. We don’t need more documentation of the crimes. We need consequences for the crimes. Until you have a plan for that, I don’t want to hear about cameras and training.

Some advice from someone who grew up in Baltimore where this happens more: If this pans out as a snow-then-sleet/ice storm, I suggest not shoveling until after the sleet/ice is finished. A layer of snow under the ice makes ice removal easier. And, yes, prepare for an extended power outage.
