We talk a lot about being good bystanders but are we actually teaching our children what that means? My piece on the horrific faiture of the fraternity members in the group chat and a local high school’s missed opportunity to teach youth how to take action. dot-connecting.ghost.io/the-silent-p...

The silent path from Cornell to Hope High
Three hundred and twenty six miles separate Cornell University from Hope High School in Providence, Rhode Island, but right now those two schools sit adjacent in my mind. Two stories of sexual assault...

What It Feels Like at Cornell Right Now
As a professor at the Ivy League school, Kate Manne has known many, many victims. There’s a palpable feeling on campus, she writes, that this is big.

My campus chaplain colleagues and I have to sign a non-proselytizing agreement, because certain religious leaders want to do little more than preach at people and try to convert them. But you'll rarely see proselytizing as fanatical as this AI cult stuff.

I probably should not have read this. The sterile language of this timeline only heightens the effect. There are so many layers of anger, but the “afforded the opportunity to mitigate their conduct by submitting essays to CORNELL” part hits me where I live. I have measured out my life in essays…

look, you can't just punish trump when dems are in power. that might make republicans do something crazy, like stage a coup, illegally shred the federal bureaucracy, or even vstart abducting people off the street and extraditing them to torture sites all over the world

"When I'm critical of human rights abuses of Russia, that does not mean I am critical of people who believe in the Russian Orthodox Church...when I’m critical of the human rights abuses of Israel, that does not mean anything against anyone of any religion." Well said, @tommorelloofficial.bsky.social
Like I said, courage is contagious. I am a proponent of human rights for everyone. When I am critical of the human rights abuses of Russia, that does not mean that I am critical of people who believe in the Russian Orthodox Church. When I’m critical of human rights abuses of Saudi Arabia, that does not mean that I’m critical of people who believe in Islam.

“When I’m critical of human rights abuses of England, that does not mean I’m critical of people who believe in the Church of England. And when I’m critical of the human rights abuses of Israel, that does not mean anything against anyone of any religion. I want there to be peace, justice, equality and human rights across the board. And whenever that peace, justice or human rights are transgressed, it’s my duty to stand up against it.”

I'll say this: 90s me would have been stoked to see Liz Phair and Sleater Kinney partying on stage, covering Elastica after sets as great as tonight's were, and to be able to capture that energy with a tiny camera sauntered to the telephone in my pocket? Pretty, pretty good

Yes, and also, back in the day artists wrote songs that were about absolutely nothing, it was more understandable because the musical genre was still being invented. But now when artists like Ed Sheeran build careers on vapidity and platitudes, that is on them. Buh bye

SIXTH FIGURES: Dan Koh held a massive fundraising lead over the five other Democratic candidates running in the Sixth Congressional District heading into pre-primary crunch time, federal campaign filings published late last week showed. He’s also gotten more than $940,000 in help from a super PAC dubbed the New Leadership PAC.

But in case that’s not enough, he’s also getting an assist from another super PAC, this one funded largely by venture capital colossus Andreessen Horowitz and Greg Brockman, the president of OpenAI.
