This is one of the things that makes the American project so special. I’m regularly asked if I’d get Dutch citizenship, which for me requires renouncing my U.S. citizenship, and this is fundamentally one of my biggest hangups.

First half of today’s bike journey, Nijmegen-Amersfoort-Amsterdam started with a train+bike bridge, swung past a memorial for a time when America didn’t suck, a great public garden along a bike lane and train tracks, and then Amersfoort.

In one of those “multiple things can be true” moments I’m quite bummed by the U.S. failing to make it to a quarterfinals again (with what seemed to be a very promising team that just didn’t show up) and glad that it doesn’t have orange taint on it, and that Belgium ultimately weren’t cheated.

The light rail from the airport is actually useful in getting to Tempe and downtown Phoenix from Tempe. Not much else unfortunately and my favorite stop there was in the more suburban areas
