I increasingly think that lisp / Clojure got it right with code as data. Being able to traverse and modify code based on context allows for really elegant abstractions while keeping business logic clear.

I feel like with MCP we are learning the hard way that even with LLMs you still want domain composition. MCP doesn’t compose and there’s currently no discovery method. It makes building a robust systems that others can build on top of harder.

What if instead of giving $5000 to every American, you gave them a choice. $5000 now or $7500 invested in a social wealth fund (locked until retirement) that invested in American businesses directly. You encourage business to invest in automation, adopt AI etc…

I don’t want video games to look photorealistic, nor do they need to be an infinite sandbox or constantly evolving. But I would like more games you can play on the couch together and have fun with other people. I feel like that has been practically lost apart from a few Hazelight games.

Been working on some codebase analysis tooling recently. I'm more convinced than ever of the validity of Conway's Law. Your system architecture will be modelled on your organisation's communication structures.

the reason The Matrix uses humans as batteries is because some executives thought the original idea—that the machines would use human brains as processors—was too complicated for audiences and they wouldn't accept it anyway.

I think Manchester has deployed boosterism well over the last decade, but it has tended to work because it delivered things at the same time. Boosterism without delivery is just words and there’s some risk the city starts to rely too much on narrative for its momentum

Very often when trying to think about a problem I start wondering: "How does software X deal with that?" And 98.5% the answer is: they don't, they just let it fail. Often silently. Every time I keep relearning how low the standards usually are in this industry.

I've started to see arguments that we have to get used to AI Slop coding even if it isn't great, because it's fast. Humans could go faster, too, if they're allowed to turn in stuff that only sometimes works. Such a fascinating double standard that will in no way come back to haunt, naw.
