I increasingly think that lisp / Clojure got it right with code as data. Being able to traverse and modify code based on context allows for really elegant abstractions while keeping business logic clear.

As of SEP-2640 you can kind of do this at the skill level, but tools don’t compose naturally. There’s no good way of canonically declaring a capability and its implementation separately. I feel like progressive api discovery is what’s missing.

I feel like with MCP we are learning the hard way that even with LLMs you still want domain composition. MCP doesn’t compose and there’s currently no discovery method. It makes building a robust systems that others can build on top of harder.

It is also profoundly more in line with the American psyche. You’re not getting a handout, you’re getting a share of what you’ve worked towards.

You then can move from a labour economy towards a capital economy (which America on the high end already is) The national fund could create a citizen dividend. Essentially UBI funded through investment in American businesses.

What if instead of giving $5000 to every American, you gave them a choice. $5000 now or $7500 invested in a social wealth fund (locked until retirement) that invested in American businesses directly. You encourage business to invest in automation, adopt AI etc…

They both want clean elegant design but fundamentally disagree on what that is 😅

The most vitriolic arguments I’ve seen are between programmers who like Clojure and programmers who like Haskell.

For what it’s worth, I don’t really care where a team is at. But I do care what trajectory they are on. Are they automating toil, are they improving their codebase, are they able to achieve what they set out to do? And if not are they improving their processes so that next time they do…

Matt (Tech) Lloyd @techlloyd.com · 16/06/2026
Seeing the improvement. Sit in retros, are they asking questions, coming up with ideas and plans to improve? Or does it look more like a moan session? Are they self analysing? Using metrics to interrogate what they do? Recognising if they slip back etc…

Matt (Tech) Lloyd @techlloyd.com · 16/06/2026
Anything that points towards them having a regular continuous improvement cycle. Many teams do retros etc… but often it ends up just being going through the motions.

I don’t want video games to look photorealistic, nor do they need to be an infinite sandbox or constantly evolving. But I would like more games you can play on the couch together and have fun with other people. I feel like that has been practically lost apart from a few Hazelight games.

More importantly, if you do not model your organisation structure, then you will not have any structured architecture.

Been working on some codebase analysis tooling recently. I'm more convinced than ever of the validity of Conway's Law. Your system architecture will be modelled on your organisation's communication structures.

the reason The Matrix uses humans as batteries is because some executives thought the original idea—that the machines would use human brains as processors—was too complicated for audiences and they wouldn't accept it anyway.

I built a procedural medieval island map generator using Wave Function Collapse on hex grids. 4,100 cells, 900 possible states per cell, 60fps on mobile. Wrote up the whole process with lessons learned. Links below 👇 #threejs #webgpu

I think Manchester has deployed boosterism well over the last decade, but it has tended to work because it delivered things at the same time. Boosterism without delivery is just words and there’s some risk the city starts to rely too much on narrative for its momentum

Radiohead - House of Cards came out 18 years ago. I remember they open sourced the 3d scanning data used for the video. It was cool to muddle around with it and render it out in 3d.
