Canada is wealthy, yet 65K people are homeless. Only 3.3% of our housing is non-market, far behind European countries. I challenged the Liberals: shouldn't nation-building mean ensuring everyone has a home? Housing is infrastructure. Ending homelessness must be a nat'l priority. #NationBuilding

Homelessness in Canada exploded after successive Conservative and Liberal governments gutted public housing spending. The market won't solve the problems it created. It's time for the government to get back in the business of building housing that people can actually afford.

Oyster fishing is a way of life on PEI, but disease is threatening to wipe out the sector that has sustained communities here for generations. In an unstable world, we need to protect Canada's industries. I spoke with fishers in Charlottetown to learn what the federal government can do to help.

the tweet is so long too. his feelings are really hurt. empath for billionaires 😢
part of a tweet from conservative MP marc dalton:

David Eby seems to think being a billionaire is something to be condemned.

Maybe he should take a look at what Jimmy Pattison has actually done for British Columbia.

• EXPO 86: Pattison worked virtually full-time for five years without compensation to help make Expo 86 a reality and putting Vancouver on the world stage

• Health care: He donated $75 million to St. Paul’s Hospital, described by the B.C. government as a historic contribution to Canadian health-care philanthropy. (BC News)

• Royal Columbian Hospital: He donated $30 million toward the redevelopment, with the new acute-care tower now bearing his namesecond part of a tweet from conservative MP marc dalton:

• Surrey health care: He donated $5 million toward the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, helping fund equipment and attract physicians.

-Vancouver General Hospital: donated $20 million to VGH

-He made major contributions to Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, Burnaby, Kelowna General and Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. A 2024 grant record shows nearly $20 million in foundation grants in one year, much of it going to B.C. health care.

- Children’s health: the Pattison Group, has contributed tens of millions of dollars to B.C. Children’s Hospital, including $15 million for its family immunization clinic.

• Jobs and investment: The Pattison Group grew from a single Vancouver car dealership into a major Canadian business empire employing thousands of people.last part of a tweet from conservative MP marc dalton:

So when David Eby looks at Jimmy Pattison and sees only “a billionaire,” British Columbians should remember what Pattison has actually contributed.

He built businesses. He created jobs. He invested in our communities. He helped put Vancouver on the world stage. And he has donated millions to help British Columbians receive health care.

We should be debating how to create more success stories like Jimmy Pattison not denigrating people simply because they achieved extraordinary success.

B.C. needs more builders, more investment and more ambition, not politicians who turn success into something to be ashamed of and using him for cheap political talking points

There's a reason previous Liberal governments looked at privatizing airports and didn't go through with it. Private investors don't want a stake in our public assets to make them better. They’re in it to make as much money as possible for themselves - while workers and passengers pay the price.

not true, canada takes it $525 million per year in revenues from land leases. and private investors are only out for increasing revenues for themselves, not the public.
The federal government currently owns about two dozen large airports across the country and leases the grounds to non-profit airport authorities that are responsible for overseeing their operations. Those lease fees are worth $525 million per year, according to the Canadian Airports Council.
