I'm looking for a skirmish game "standard" or something that is easily hackable / community driven, probably mini-agnostic and with DIY ethos 452 5
TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 30/11/2024I think the other side to all of this is "you probably shouldn't trust blindly any/all labellers / verification systems" which might be a problem communities face in the near future (and/or malicious use of those systems) 100 1
TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 29/11/2024For example, this is a Label created by @hunterw.bsky.social specifically for this purpose. bsky.app/profile/did:... TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 29/11/2024contrast with trusting in big, centralized entities. We've been burnt by that many times now. Neither system is perfect, but I believe #decentralized gives more power to the people. I say we try more of that for a bit and see how it goes :] 220 2
TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 29/11/2024I mean yeah, smaller, decentralized authorities have the typical disadvantages of becoming stale, abandoned or taken over; they're usually maintained by individuals in their free time, etc... But that's just like open source projects, and that's been working pretty good for decades now. 120 2
TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 29/11/2024Why would you trust a single, central entity (like Bluesky corp in this case) to give "blue checks" based on some arbitrary method or classification? Wouldn't it be better if a community driven entity or group decided to check veracity based on interests by subculture/niche? (via the Labels system) 120 2
TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 29/11/2024re: #accountVerification IMHO it should be decentralized. Domain verification is a nice one; it should be one of many systems. Community driven labels should be the way to go here. If you trust the label maintainer, good enough. Specially if/when Bluesky becomes truly decentralized 110 1

TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 28/11/2024It is true tho, that lately (~10 ys?) I've been seeing more narrative structure oriented TTRPGs, or things like mechanized arcs and character-driven procedures, etc. Which I like, btw, they taught me how to do that better, and I take those things to apply even when I'm playing more trad RPGs. 010 1
TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 28/11/2024I think it mostly depends on the players and their table culture. From experience, I had players really savvy in narrative structure (artsy backgrounds maybe?), actively pursuing "satisfying" beats in the story, while others at the same table were just oblivious of it all but still having good fun. 110 1

TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 19/11/2024true! but I meant in regards to #24XX sensibilities. Maybe I'm pushing it too much. Not that it's wrong--it might become something on its own--but part of doing a 24XX hack and not an entire new thing is playing within those constraints of rules-lightness and limited space. 000 0
TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 19/11/2024excited bc tomorrow I'll playtest a #24XX #ttrpg hack I'm working on, which is basically cheesy Kung Fu movies from the 80's/90's with involved martial arts mechanics and card-revealing rock/paper/scissors style maneuvers. Maybe it's fun, maybe it's too cumbersome and overly complex, we'll see. 220 2
TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 19/11/2024The setting was urban fantasy and each of the major arcana represented a named NPC, and also acted as the guide or bane for the PCs. PC "stats" allowed them to "flip" more or less cards in each action check. Never finished past a very early draft, but still toy with the ideas once in a while :) 000 0
TaTooKa @tatooka.itch.io · 19/11/2024In an old project of mine, the basic mechanic was kinda like blackjack (draw cards until you reach the difficulty, but don't go over 21 or it's a miss), and if you drew any of the major arcana, you consulted a table for special outcomes. There was more to the system but that was the gist of it. 100 1
