The pool at the Edgewater Beach Hotel sits calm, undisturbed, reflecting the windows and interior. A swimming monument to art deco, the last good architecture. It needs to be swam in. I need to swim in it.

The pool at the Edgewater Beach hotel, empty save for the people you can see behind me, reflecting in mirrors on either side of a window in front of me that has a fire escape cutting across it diagonally. All this reflects in the perfectly calm pool that begs to be swum in.

Artist Georgia O'Keeffe (1887 – 1986) posing with a human skull replica on the patio of her Ghost Ranch, New Mexico home, 1939. Dressed in white, Ms. O’Keeffe is bemusedly smiling at the skull which is resting atop a fence post in front of the rustic home.

O'Keeffe was a most famously a modernist painter and draftswoman whose career spanned seven decades, and whose work remained largely independent of major art movements.

Called the "Mother of American modernism", O'Keeffe gained international recognition for her paintings of natural forms, particularly flowers and desert-inspired landscapes, which were often drawn from and related to places and environments in which she lived.

O'Keeffe was well-known for incorporating bones and skulls into her paintings after she first visited New Mexico in 1929. She found the bones beautiful and saw them as symbolic of the desert's keen liveliness, not death. She would often ship animal bones she found in the desert back to her studio in New York to paint.

It's #fossilfriday! Here's a guy from HOW TO SURVIVE PREHISTORY: Arthropleura, a (probably!) herbivorous millipede relative that roams the coal forests of Carboniferous Scotland. Survival Verdict: YES. It's got a nasty nip, but we feel if you get bit, you have it coming.
