Alright, kindergarten gradual entry is finally DONE for my youngest 🎉 I can finally focus on some gamedev without needing to drop what I'm doing to chauffeur kids to/from school/after school programs, and everyone starts school at the same time, no more offset start times

Tiny fire! This I found pretty challenging at only 8x8 px, kept finding it either too energetic or too static. But good enough for now, I'll probably adjust it more once I have it in the game properly

Google replaced pushing Git tags for certain source code with obtaining source code via Google Drive after making a request through Google Forms. It's completely ridiculous and they've gradually become very slow at handling requests. They're in clear violation of the GPLv2 now.

It lives!!! PC is back in action; thankfully only the motherboard burned out & I was able to scrape together enough change for a replacement (helps that old hardware isn't ludicrously expensive). Freckles missed gaming nights as much as I did 😆

So bad news on the game dev front: my PC burned out, and I can't afford a replacement. Not sure what, if anything, is salvageable but it's all older hardware so finding compatible parts won't be easy even if I could afford any of it And it takes with it a month of art assets I hadn't committed 😣😭

Blue Bottle Games, as a policy, does not use generative AI. It's something we've discussed as a team, weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately, we decided it was not for us. Recently, while chatting with a colleague, she mentioned it was useful hearing our reasoning. So: Sharing time! 1/12

Been diverted from gamedev with some sysadmin shenanigans lately: the homelab was ailing after a long power outage and I went down a horrific rabbit hole
A photo of a home server rack, with a 4U server pulled out, opened and with its guts spewed out. In the background are some elderly displaysA closeup of the power supply mess. A very old, not modular power supply with an overabundance of the legacy 4 pin molex style cables. Seriously, there are a ton of the things and they're all hardwired in.

Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦
The Heat Retreat promo image adapted for Canada Day with a Canadian flag positioned centrally, and depicting the ubiquitous red 50's pickup truck parked on a dirt road next to a a small camp comprised of an orange tent, campfire and cast iron pan. Surroundings are a forest setting of mostly fir and cedar, with the ocean and coastline in the background. The style is pixel art.

End result is actually not bad, tastes more like a self contained sloppy joe than taco. I shall call it the "unsloppy joe" 🧑‍🍳💋

It has been stylishly positioned on a plain white plate atop a grey marbled countertopThe "unsloppy joe" cross section, bearing the cheesy beefy innards of the otherwise unremarkable white bun. Very WIP still but made enough progress on the first aid minigame for Heat Retreat to whip up a video of the gameplay in action! There are bugs (like health meter & timer) and tuning/balance to do, and art needs polish, but it's been too long since I've had anything worth showing 😆 #gamedev #bevy

Test results are looking good for the Heat Retreat status system rework! Boss has completed her code review (I am dubious of how thorough she was), so we're good to merge 🎉 All the simulations are running & returning data within expected ranges 💪
