My favourite chart from the @IEA special report on electrification. Electricity is only 23% of Final Energy (No big deal), but it's 37% of Useful Energy (What?) and delivers 46% of GDP (Wow!) And it's going clean, fast. Still think there's no transition? iea.blob.core.windows.net/assets/1c696...

Electricity is 23% of global final energy but delivers 37% of useful energy and powers 46% of the global economy. We don't need to replace every fossil joule. We need to replace the services. A much smaller task. Great to see the @iea.org’s new Electrification report finally measure this.

The biggest scandal in the energy transition? Huge amounts of energy lost as rejected heat. Great talk with @mliebreich.bsky.social on Cleaning Up about why we may be measuring the transition all wrong. Plus hydrogen, heat pumps and systems thinking. youtu.be/7xDH8ZqJvqo?...

The evil AI copied itself onto the internet! No stoping it now! That's just Skynet or Ultron. Those stories rely on magic, and the audience suspends disbelief because the plot is cool. Makes no sense for AI that needs giant datacenters or live connections to them. Can we deal with reality, please?

Measuring energy usage in units of Primary Energy is like measuring nutrition in acres. People need food, not food waste or land inefficiently farmed. People need energy services not thermal waste or fossil fuels inefficiently extracted. Time to measure what matters. #PrimaryEnergyFallacy

There are many stories for why oil price remains lower than any expert expected. None of them fully explain it. So let me add one more: capitalists are saying oil is not as important to global economy as energy experts think it is. Certainly not as important as it was in the 1970s or even 2000s.

Suomessa on 300 miljardin euron vihreän siirtymän investointien pipeline.

Tavoitteet ohjaavat investointeja, siksi niistä kiinni pitäminen on tärkeää.

Siellä on tavoitteen taustalaskelmissa mukana *kasvava* hakkuutaso.

Tapio Laakso @tapiolaakso.bsky.social · 08/04/2026
Miksi leikkaukset ja ilmastotavoitteet olisivat vastakkainen asia? Pikemminkin sopeutuksista kiinni pitäminen pakottaa katsomaan sellaisia ratkaisuja, joita tähän asti ei ole haluttu tehdä.
