It continues to be interesting to me just how many men, when presented with a clear and obvious answer to a test of morality and empathy, will nevertheless choose to "devil's advocate" themselves into a position of complete assholery

So apropos of nothing in particular, let’s talk about media tie-in novel pay vs. original work pay, shall we? Let’s say you write a novel. It’s set in your own world, your own characters, and titled The Original. You get a book deal! Look at you go!

This, exactly: if you're an author and you say "but that would be horribly unprecedented!" It would not. There would be some kind of statutory license that would amount to pennies on what you'd get from a lawsuit.

This is my take on almost every single pending copyright case: settling for a few billion is what we will have to do because the alternative is probably that Congress rewrites copyright law so that we have to give it over for free.

True. Used to be you had to really work to run up huge IP liabilities. Now? This 30-second video probably infringes at least two trademarks, between two and six copyrights, and - somewhat remarkably given that there are only three speaking roles - six people's NIL rights. Truly incredible progress.

And the third commission requested by OWD: Argenta and her friend group and lovers and little sister prepping for dinner!
A short comic depicting the hero Argenta preparing dinner with her friend Red and her little sister Aurelia, while Argenta's girlfriend Roxy naps in the background. Red and Argenta then fetch their respective significant others, Cassidy and Castor, away from mad science. The final panel depicts this found family eating together happily.
Dialogue in the middle two panels:
Cassidy: But I'm almost done!
Red: Sure you are.

Argenta: Castor. Dinner.
Aurelia: Yeah, dinner!
Castor: Is it that late already?

I've just completed three commissions today featuring fanart of Brighter Side of Gray! Big thanks to OWD on Sufficient Velocity for commissioning these. These are the first two; the third will be on a following post.
Three superheroes and a new hire relax after a difficult day. Dialogue is as follows:
Hammer: Gonna take ages to get all this soot out of my hair. Maybe I can give Argenta a call.
King In Embers: Blugh, hate those old buildings. I can still taste burnt mold.
Counterforce: What's the maximum range on your powers? Search and rescue will go more smoothly if you can pinpoint trapped individuals for us.
Kayla: If it's just detecting minds, I should be able to pick up on anyone within 300 yards.Six corporate superheroes sit in a board room meeting discussing recent public relations events. One seat is conspicuously absent, with only the youngest other superhero noticing. Dialogue is as follows:
Redfinger: "No complaints about the interview, but the crowd Q&A after was... er...
Executive Assistant: "Heard. We'll have plants next time."
Orion: "Speaking of crowds, I'd like to bring up an issue with the meet and greet last weekend-"

flying battleship concept 👀
concept artwork of a flying battleship for my GlassBorn project. two versions are shown: the normal version at the top, and the "possessed" version at the bottom. the Japanese battleship "Yamato" was used for reference. several key details are pointed out, namely that the ship has seven grav plates on each side, rear thrusters, and a tail fin. the words "Utmost Good Faith" are emblazoned on the ship's side. in the possessed version, the ship has been overtaken by Empty Vessels. three large Evies are seemingly grafted to the top of the ship, with several smaller ones growing across its surface. the bow of the ship has been converted into a terrifying face, as the Evies have overtaken the ship's interior.

Bit late to post this, but a few days ago I went to look at some historic vessels in Lowestoft - and amazingly nobody had warned them I was coming. Consequently they were unexpectedly light on the traditional greeting of flaming torches and pitchforks.

The NYT lost the Pulitzer for their transphobic podcast series with Azeen Ghorayshi to Pablo Torre and his reporting on the Clippers. They're salty about it so of course they're not going to properly credit him.
Screenshot of an X (Twitter) post by journalist Julie K. Brown (@jkbjournalist) criticizing coverage by The New York Times and The Athletic.
The post text reads:
"It is shameful that @nytimes @TheAthletic buried the fact that the biggest punishment in NBA history was the result of an investigation by journalist @PabloTorre. And to call it the result of a 'podcast episode' is a further slap in the face. He won a Pulitzer for this story and they call it an 'episode' instead of, at the outset -- crediting him with exposing this scandal. Really really lame."
Below the text, the timestamp shows "8:18 AM · Sep 3, 2026 · 32.7K Views".

To the layperson aerodynamics might as well be witchcraft. And these tubes here, designed to set Matthew Hopkins running to the nearest haberdashery, are the peculiar abuse of physics known as the Flettner rotor.
You can tell this is a Flettner Rotor ship by the way it says "Flettner Rotor" on the side. Two huge cylinders stick out the top of a surprisingly small vessel.

The image is of a four panel comic.
The title reads, "Suddenly Finding A New Obsession".
In the first panel we see Sarah, the protagonist, in front of her computer. She has a bored expression on her face.
In the second panel we zoom in on her face. She looks suddenly alert.
In the third panel we zoom in even closer on her face. Her eyes and mouth are wide open in intrigue.
In the fourth panel we zoom out and see Sarah in front of her computer again, but this time she is dressed in a frog costume, surrounded by frog toys, and has an "I heart frogs" poster behind her.
