This is one of those headlines where, though they are becoming more and more common, it requires such a leap of imagination for normal people, that the scale of it is is hard to communicate. It’s like our world is screaming at us, but it’s in a frequency most of us can’t hear.

No plans yet for Halloween? Come and see me talk about the goings on at the Manton Barrow, WIltshire in 1906. A wailing banshee, a ghostly figure, blood on the walls, a visit from a medium, a missing finger, and so much more. Scroll down for the link.
Two images side by side. On the left is a photograph taken in 1906 of some of the labourers who dug the barrow standing on the site of the excavation, each holding a shovel. On the right is a contemporary sketch of the excavatd skeleton in the barrow, surrounded by grave goods.A clip from the Daily Express in late 1906. The Headlines are "Druid Priestess' Revenge. Haunting the spoilers of her grave. Undignified pranks. The article begins "An ancient skeleton that refused to abide peacefully in any abode but her original burial place, and after upsetting a whole village, had to be taken back to her...". There the clip ends somewhat abruptly.

If the triple lock on pensions will be scrapped. The 1st priority is to fix Pension Credit - the top up for the lowest earning pensioners to give them a basic minimum income. Shamefully many 100,000s of the poorest pensions still miss out on what they're entitled to.

Fewer than 400 Eriskay ponies remain. One of the rarest native breeds in the world, their plight is unique because the community living on their tiny Hebridean island are fighting for them. The ponies wander the village and townsfolk care for them together

90 years ago, Parliament responded to the rise of Oswald Mosley's Blackshirts by passing the Public Order Act, which banned political uniforms, private militias and the threat of force for political objects. The debates make very resonant reading today. Here's the Liberal Robert Bernays. (Short 🧵)
You cannot conduct a fair match when one side is playing with a ball and the other with bombs and, if democracy is to survive, it must be conducted according to definite and recognised rule. One of them is that no political party should resort to any weapon other than reason and argument. The introduction of private armies, as I see it, strikes at the root of democracy. I know it is contended that the Blackshirts are not armed and, therefore, are not an army, but I do not think that argument can be upheld. … Uniformed men in military formation suggest, and are meant to suggest, the idea of force. It is no argument to reply that at this or that demonstration no force is intended. It is an inescapable fact that a uniform in politics symbolises force, to be used either now or in the future.
