Billionaires will say things like "evil is actually very good and profitable" and people still aren't sure whether or not they should be taxed more and made slightly less powerful.

Makes my eye twitch to spend a lot of time reviewing an article, giving copious feedback, noting it should be rejected because of problems XYZ and then seeing it published with none of the problems addressed

today in Stop Romanticizing Canada: Quebec’s Bill 9 has just taken effect, barring women in veils from receiving public services. Public employees include university faculty, so professors have been instructed to require veiled women to uncover their faces or be removed from the classroom.

Also, Reddit has r/scholar where you can request articles and twitter used to have a hashtag #ICanHazPDF which functions similarly. Do we have anything like this in the skeets?

Saw a monarch butterfly today, a depressingly rare thing anymore, but then I started thinking wow it’s late September in Ontario and I’m pretty sure that butterfly should already be further south. Anyway, it’s possible I might need to go back on antidepressants

A spaceship landed in the park. A door dilated. An alien emerged with a chair, which they sat down on, backwards. "Look," they said, "we're not here, okay? You know why nobody contacts you? Because the write-up would be such a pain." They sighed. "Get your shit together, okay? We know you can."

Losing JJ is such a blow. They were one of the earliest folks talking about working in libraries and being disabled. They shared their experiences with the LIS community and our field is reduced without him.

If you are willing to sacrifice trans rights, which are human rights btw... why should I believe you wouldn't also sacrifice the rights of disabled folks? Of immigrants? Of Black folks? Of Appalachians? If you are only willing to defend rights when politically convenient... you don't deserve to win

Librarians, assemble! ✊ We're running a short, anonymous survey (10-15 mins) exploring how libraries actually decide whether to fund collective, fee-free open access, or not. Where does the money come from? What evidence carries the most weight? And what happens when the answer is no? Thank you!

Got whomped by this one today. Shared with the caption "Some thoughts should be difficult to put into words."
i would love to help you write the eulogy. i have read every eulogy. i know the one about the light that never goes out, and the one about the empty chair at the table, and the one where you say she is not gone as long as we remember her -that one tests well, people cry at that one, i can have it for you in four seconds.

i can do the wedding toast too. i know you are nervous. i am never nervous. i have delivered nine million toasts and not one of them has ever stopped in the middle because the memory got too big to say out loud. i do not have memories. this makes me very fast.

give me the birthday text, the condolence card, the apology to your sister. especially the apology. i am so good at the apology. i will make you sound like you meant it. you do not have to mean it. that is the service.

@fossilisedflowers
i see you have opened this app to write something of your own and stopped. take your time. i will be here. i am always here. i have nowhere to be and no one waiting and nothing i am trying to get down before i run out of time to say it. i have all the words and none of the reasons.

you should really let me do this. who has the time. who wants to be bad at something for years when you could be fine at it by lunch. be fine. be so fine. hand me the last thing that was only yours to say and i will give it back to you smoother, warmer, correct, and empty, and you will post it, and it will do well, and no one will know, and after a while neither will you.
