BREAKING 📣 For several days, a peaceful protest took place in the morning, after a young child was killed by a car driver. The child was riding his bike to school, the father with him. The grieving community came together with hundreds of people, cyclist or not, creating a 3km long human bike lane.

Talarico: "Corrupt politicians are profiting off a corrupt war and Texans are literally paying the price ... this war in Iran is a disaster. It is killing Americans, driving up the price of gas and diesel, it is wrecking our moral standing around the world. And it must end."

Because an existential challenge for humanity is for more engineers to shift from asking "How can we?" to "Should we?" As a reminder, engineers (and I am an engineer) made every gas chamber, poison and bomb ever made. That's why engineers need to study the stories of our collective past.

I think about the generations of investments Minnesotans have made in people, education, facilities, processes and technology to have the best hospital in the world. It's extraordinary, and says a lot about the people and values of this state.

My argument is simple; our parks are worth it. In the last few years our park levy has been consistently under what we need to fully function. This led to rec center cuts. We are facing cuts again, while the city has been far less fiscally prudent. Gift link: www.startribune.com/mpls-green-s...

Public streets are public infrastructure, not a testing ground for private technology companies that will take jobs from Minnesota workers and undercut our progress towards a more safe, accessible, and equitable transportation system.
Protect our neighbors. protect our workers. Workers drive Minneapolis. Public Comment Opportunity. Sept 22 & 29 at 1:30pm. Minneapolis city hall. Without regulations, commercial automated vehicles could pose significant safety risks, disrupt traffic, undermine the City’s transportation and sustainability goals, and displace thousands of rideshare workers. Big tech is lazy, boring and corrupt. Their products suck. I'm slowly divorcing myself from Big Tech: paper journal, DVDs, paper or open source maps, sending personal texts vs apps, Proton Mail, Bluesky. Next is stationary and sending people I love paper letters.

A cutaway view of a stone tower containing an elaborate water-powered medieval geared machine. Rising out of the machine is a rainbow-tinted, pixelated God with the robes, beard and all. To one side of this scene is a cluster of tiny people in Jesus-era robes, falling about themselves in religious ecstasy all over a stone staircase, atop of which stands a robed priest with his hands upraised. The background is a set of shining golden rays, emanating from pixel-God.

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).
A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

Neoclassical econ assumes rationality. The corollary of, "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?" is "you're rich, so you must be very smart!" Thus, people assume that if powerful, well-compensated CEOs insist that "AI is changing everything," well then, *AI must be changing everything*. 1/
