New from 404 Media: Meta announced Muse, its AI agent that can book restaurants for you. We've seen internal Meta messages showing Meta is actually testing having these calls being made by human beings in call centers. In those tests its not AI, it's just a person www.404media.co/meta-tests-m...

Meta Tests Muse AI Agent Calls That Are Actually Made By Humans in a Call Center
"This has potential for so much negative PR. It could portray us as ‘their AI is not good enough so they still need humans’ kind of coverage for this launch."

Effing hell! I’m really feeling for any future students who are being pushed into subjects the universities decided would be most profitable (for whom though) because literature and history apparently aren’t worth it anymore… I’m also really sad for everyone who will loose their job.

What gets me is the woman who wasn’t able to finish her degree. The one who isn’t sure if she can. The one who started a stable job and had to leave because of this behavior. How many brilliant women are stifled by the men coddled by their institutions?

Today in "this administration totally supports The Troops", service members are getting notified that their children will no longer be provided with transportation from day care to elementary school. When your work day starts at 6:15 AM, that's a problem.

Thank you This is such a pet peeve of mine. Psychology has research on “maternal instinct” being a skill that needs to be learnt. The person that spends most time with the child is gen. faster in learning the skill. Due to gender roles this is usually the mother. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Thank you for sharing this. I read the text last night and the comment about the noise by MK is frustrating. There is an evidence based discussion that low frequent noise from closed cooling loops have a negative effect on the environment and human health. MK is not a physicist or sound designer.

there's 5 main reasons they want you to think AI is now self-aware and "goes rogue" 1. product marketing misrepresentation 2. props up insane valuations for a sector not making money 3. scares lawmakers into trash legislation 4. distracts from technofascism 5. distances execs from accountability

I really can’t. When I was visiting my aunt as a kid. She’d send me usually to the farm next door to get fresh milk. The first time I couldn’t believe how warm the milk was. My uncle that jerk told me it came warm out of the udder. My aunt got so mad. That’s how I learnt that milk gets pasteurized.

This whole transphobia is deeply unnecessary. So called biological or cis-women have forever skipped a long washroom queue in a club or festival and used the men’s washroom instead because it was quicker. Politicians should focus on taxing the rich and bring down living costs instead.

One of the perks being a teenager in the 80s was that we grew up with John Carpenter movies. “They Live” was iconic from its first screening. Though “Dark Star” is my personal favourite “They Live” is a close second followed by “Christine”.

Reminds me of: “You speak to me in words and I look at you with feelings.” (Pierrot le Fou byJean-Luc Goddard) Similar kind of dissonance. LLMs know words without understanding the meaning, now they might learn to recognise emotions without understanding feelings.
