This is starkest example of the war crime of “wanton destruction of cities, towns or villages, or devastation not justified by military necessity“ in the 80 years since it was first codified and prosecuted at Nuremberg. A grave, continuing and tolerated breach of the 1949 Geneva Conventions.

Professor Debbie Ging cited a result that a third of Gen Z boys believe that women should obey their husbands. “For the first time in this research, we're seeing a really huge backslide where younger boys have more aggressive attitudes politically towards gender issues than their grandfathers.”

Not to be too "every crisis is a secret opportunity" but I think the rise in generic AI stuff is a good moment to think about how you curate the art you listen to or watch or read. Engage more fully with what you like, seek it out, and support those artists!

Following yesterday's winds, my local roads are covered in branches/twigs which made my usual morning walk into more of an obstacle course. I was so relieved, though, to find that my "favourite tree"* has survived, and 2 of my other "special mentions" - while a bit battered- are still standing too.
A handsome tree - with a fine thick trunk and nicely shaped branches still covered in leaves - standing in the middle of a field under a blue sky with some clouds. My favourite tree. Two old trees in the middle of a field photographed from a distance but appearing to have some damaged/bent branches.

It astonishes me that those of us whose laptops contain confidential work info (in my case student marks, personal info shared via email etc) haven’t been told by our employers to absolutely under NO circumstances download or activate these things (including Copilot on our emails)!

I can TOTALLY understand why schools might take a shortcut with AI-gen posters for bake sales etc - but it's still sad to see so many in a place where kids should be getting inspired. How about this? Ask the kids to design the posters themselves? Make it a fun project - make it real.

If you're concerned about migration rules being tightened in Ireland, I recommend writing to your local TDs. Ireland is far from perfect but we do live in a country where you can email politicians' offices directly. If you have something to say, why wait until they're on your doorstep?

A campaign for *MSF* to be banned as a terrorist group (on the paper thin basis of claims about 2 past employees) is the product of the UK Govt being willing to divorce any meaningful conception of societal threat from its use of proscription powers. Govt needs to wake up to the madness of this:
