So sorry to read this. It's tough, I know.

How is this allowed?

Yeah. Shocking, isnt it?! The news is only coming out now - see the post on 'Rugby News' on here. France again and the O'Gara connection again.

And now, 10 years to the day after Anthony Foley's death, we have the awful news that a Lions player has died in his hotel on the eve of the La Rochelle match. Shocking coincidence. May he rest in peace.

Ten years gone today. Always in our hearts. Legend. #8 #suaf #speirgorm

I'm so sorry. It's a very tough loss, I know.

I absolutely *love* The Low Down. Loved the general "vibe" of Season 1, and hope it continues in the same vein. I'll watch The Diplomat too, eventually, but I'm not in the same hurry to see that one.

Yup. Thanks for sharing. A very talented young woman. I actually bought her "Hollow Heart" EP last night, and she has a new EP "Summon" coming out in November. Great songs in both went down great with the crowd last night. I'd confidently say the next time she comes to Dolans it'll be The Warehouse.

Heidi Curtis. Name to watch. Saw her last night in The Kasbah @dolanslimerick.bsky.social A much younger artist than usual for us, but had seen her support Florence ATM & knew her influences are more 'mature'. Think Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, Florence herself. Great gig. Live music-good for the soul!

My heart breaks for mathematicians whose lives and careers are being destroyed by AI — and especially this PhD student, who doesn’t even know he is a poet

Kai Shaikh, a Ph.D. student in mathematics at the University of Toronto, also currently at SLMath, observed that theorems are easy to use as benchmarks, but that they capture little of the wonderment at the heart of math. "Just like a photograph of a mile marker can't provide much of the value of actually going on a hike," he said,
"it would seem to me that proofs without stories, or even stories without struggle or mystery, and first glimpses of strange beasts, are not very meaningful or valuable to us humans."

Exactly. "Cheeky pints" is 100% a British expression. Have *never* heard it in Ireland. We'd either say we're going for "a quick pint" or, (around here anyway), going for "the one". "Will we go for just the one?"

Well said. How many of Tommy Robinson’s Sport’s Direct paramilitary division go and help or worship at the churches they claim they want to protect. It’s much easier to don a balaclava and shout at the RNLI. #HopeNotHate

There's a very nice piece of radio where she guests on Jo Whiley's BBC show, (just this week, I think), and Whiley plays her a clip of Marr singing her praises when he had been on. She is very sweetly delighted by his endorsement.

Navi Pillay wins the Nobel Peace Prize, and this the response. It’s the pettiness of it that disgusts as much as anything else, and the servility of those who go along with it. To adapt the line about Caligula: “Never better slaves to a worse master.”

Can I add another recommendation for Somebody Somewhere. A wonderful, warm, 'soft-paced', 3-season show with great characters (who really come into their own in season 2, imho). I loved it so much and recommended it to many others - always with great success!

Maybe it's because I'm another "20th century relic", but I think that these are wise words. A good read.

030

Susan G @susangriff.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

Yup. I think an American version of that show would've gone for a more typical 'tie everything up nicely' ending.

Susan G @susangriff.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

Came back here to say we watched the final episode tonight and thought it was excellent. Don't want to spoil for anyone else with any detail, but I thought it was one of the best finales I've seen in a long time.

Susan G @susangriff.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

The beating by a bag of sugarcubes is a good analogy. I really liked s1, but was already finding it cloying in s2 and gave up altogether early in s3. Didn't watch any of s4. Similar experience with Shrinking. Really, really liked it early on, (esp Harrison Ford), but had to give up as got too sugary

Susan G @susangriff.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

Haven't seen the finale yet, but agree re the "emotional heft" of the series. Quite impressive. Who knew the lead from "Colin From Accounts" could do such fine, serious acting? I was particularly impressed with his performance.
